So let's decide what a legitimate cross-sale on a join page should look like
 

Lots of talk lately about the growing number of programs with pre-checked cross-sales on them.

what's the consensus here say is a legitimate way of doing cross-sales? is it just one? none? more than one is ok? can pre-checked cross-sales be ok or should they have to be un-checked? must the cross-sale be above the Submit button? are line breaks to place the cross sales down the page a legitimate technique? should URL's of the sites being cross sold be mandatory?

Anything that's not pre-checked is ok.

in a perfect world no pre-check xsells
but if it is pre-checked have in regular font beside the "free access blah blah blah (recurring for $x on x days)

instead of burying the terms of the xsells at the bottom of the page

if its a good deal you shouldnt have to precheck it. Amazon is always offering me things when paying. Sometimes I bite sometimes I dont.

What will happen Visa will make the high risk cb ratio .2 or .1 then it will stop like magic.

If ya ask me Cross sales should not be permitted.

The long run would result in higher quality sites and more realistic and reliable payouts.
We owe it to the consumer to provide a good deal and not trick them. Our Industry would be alot better if it were trust worthy.
And perhaps instigate or prosper less shaves.

The concenus here doesn't matter.

A good cross sale is not having them prechecked.

Let the consumer decide.

What if sponsors started offering you $50 PPS for prechecked with opt in, and $20 for no crosses? Would there be as much bitching as there is now? Wait, there'd be bitching that they're only being paid $20 for $1 instead of $50 for ~$3.

Despite the effect of tube sites, I still say the NUMBER 1 reason people are hesitant to sign up to any adult site is fear of being overcharged or never being able to cancel. Pre-checked sales play right into that fear and confirm it.

I don't think there is any way to do pre-checked sales fairly so I'm all for "un-checked only"

I forget what site it was but when I signed up they had an option to get a 1 week trial to another site for a few bucks more. I checked it. I was a surfer then so people do buy those cross sales. I forgot to cancel it and got charged a full month but never felt cheated. So the site got it's full upsell and I felt I hadn't been scammed.

NO. Stop being so willing to rip consumers off with these kind of things. We all would make alot more money with the trust of the consumer. Thats the 2nd time I had to repeat this! LOL! They chose a site for reason, they do not need to be tricked. If this were a rule the quality of sites would go up and stop being 90% shit.

Better yet, affiliates should just push sites that can survive on the merits of their own members area without having to pull BS on surfers just to pay their affiliates.

i have never actually bought a porn membership from a surfers perspective, but i do buy things from mainstream sites like godaddy.com that have annoying x-sells, As annoying as they are for porn stuff , most of them are usually fairly obvious. I think they work better for niche porn than mainstream porn.

I know some smaller sites numbers but i would be interested to hear from some big sponsors what % of surfers actually keep the cross sales

The pre cheked xsells is not invention of the porn industry, go sign up for free account on hotmail or yahoo and see how much pre checked "features" they offering you before you really getting to your "free" mailbox.

Not many surfers would knowingly approve of $90/mo worth of sites in one shot. After they get suckered into it, how many are too embarrassed to call their CC company and complain so they just cancel online and pay the fee?

I think a more telling number would be the % of cross sales that rebill past the first full month membership.

Prechecked is pretty much like going to the grocery store and the store manager throws some shit into your cart while you're not looking.

Can anyone here name ONE instance in legit mainstream where a casual surfer is paying for something and there are pre-checked boxes (sometimes hard to understand) for the same product of a different type that will double or triple the charges if not unchecked?
