DLP (Digital Projection) ShowtimesClose
DLP™ shows are projected digitally rather than using conventional film. DLP™ technology is a revolutionary display solution that uses an optical semiconductor to manipulate light digitally. The result is maximum fidelity: a picture with impressive clarity, brilliance and color and a lack of scratches, fading and flutter.

It's definitely better. I saw a movie a few years back (think it was Collateral) twice – once with a regular film projector and the second time on a DLP. The DLP was much clearer, had less scratches and the colors were more vivid. Not many theaters offer this though.

We've got the only all Dolby-digital megaplex about 2 miles from my house. Seen quite a few movies there so far. The picture is so fucking outstanding. Never any spots or lines or hairs on the screen, only a perfect picture every time. I have noticed a few instances where a halo effect is visible in smoke or clouds, but it is very minor and quick. Overall the picture looks 99% as good as an HDTV. I can't imagine going back to a normal theater. Every time I watch a movie now I always get a big smile because it just looks so damn good. The Lucasfilm certified THX sound in all 16 theaters doesn't hurt either. :thumbsup

One thing I've found about DLP is that the contrast ratios aren't as good. You'll find that darker sequences tend to be extremely dark with less definition.

Bright scenes are really clear and bright though.
