Margeret Thatcher to recieve state funeral (God help us)

And it is going to cost us tax payers £3 million

Why not give one to hitler while they are at it?

I'm surprised there are no riots...

For you Americans, imagine Bush, but 20x worse (no exageration) getting a $6 million dollar funeral from your tax money?

Before Margret (grim reaper) Thatcher we had a world beating steel Industry, The cheapest unsubsidised deep mined coal, Cheap electricity, cheap gas, and cheap water all owned by the British people as a nation. North sea gas and oil were in state ownership and owned by us as a Nation.

Now all of or main vital requirements are mainly held by other countries and we are held to ransom. We were told by thatcher that Nationalised Industries didn't pay. But the first things that she sold off were Electricity and Gas that were making huge profits. These profits offset any losses made by the other nationalised Industries and they belonged to us.

If I had a partner in a Business and I told him that I was selling off the business but he could have a few measly shares if he was quick enough and had enough money but he would have to let me keep the rest of the profits of the sale. Then I am sure the other partner would have a criminal case against me. That is what the thatcher Government did and it was legalised corruption.

She put people out of work who were too old to get jobs anywhere else and most never worked again. We picked up the bill to pay for them. Thatcher, Like Blair who came after were not interested in the people of this country because she owned property abroad and if it got too bad here she could have always have moved. She lined the pockets of all of her family and friends and in the end she was a disaster to the working man of this country.

Her chickens are coming home to roost now as all the assets that have been sold off are starting to affect the world economy as well as our own. We only survive by virtue of the highest ever taxes on the lower paid. A man working in London on just above the minimum wage has to work the first two hrs to pay for his transport costs, the next 2 hrs to pay his tax and insurance and the next two hrs to pay council tax car tax etc. The two hours pay he has left to spend he has to pay VAT at 17.5%.

I really loathe Maggie and her legacy, she destroyed our country(s).

I've always worked under the impression that anyone who achieves 'head of state' status via ballot box GETS a state funeral. Whether or not they 'deserve' it at the end of their term doesn't enter into the equation.

It's just a matter of practicality...

Do you think it would cost more to hold a nationwide referendum each time a former head of state dies to determine whether or not a they 'deserve' a state funeral or to just bury them with all the pomp and circumstance?

Me either.

When I think of Maggie Thatcher I think of the tough old bird who sent the British fleet west to kick ass off the coast of Argentina.

If that other stuff is true, then she really does deserve the same epitaph Bush will most surely receive.

The whole country was ran by one old women?

scottybuzz 07-22-2008 09:39 PM

I heard that she was infact a very good leader, its just that at the end of her time she got very stupid with the tax and pretty swiftly got removed. But before she introduced those tax rules was one of the best prime ministers britian had had.

Again I wasnt around in those days so merely speaking from what others have told me and what I have read.

As for the funeral, should she get it? No, I dont believe tax payers should have to pay for anyones funeral regardless of who they are.

British industry destroyed
4 million unemployed
Communities undermined
Crime rate soared
An avoidable war
decline in education and the health service
Privatised utility fat cats
Greed is good
Taxes INCREASED as a share of GDP
Poll tax

Need I go on

There is a minority that think her personality over rules the fact she was a disaster, like the Bush supporters we still have around.

Btw, nice avatar ;)

I don't know how avoidable that war was. As I recall, after the Argentinan junta invaded the Falklands they made it pretty damn clear that they had no intentions of leaving under any circumstances.

In other words, they pretty much backed Thatcher into a corner.

vending_machine 07-22-2008 10:36 PM

I've read Thatcher actually did some good stuff for the economy in the UK, in Fareed Zakarias book "The Post-American World".

Somebody isn't very good at math. Population of Great Britain - 60m, 10% (or 1 in 10) of that should be 6m.

v4 media 07-23-2008 03:54 AM

She moved the country from manufacturing to services, and although she pissed off alot of people the country is better today because of her.
She smashed the unions, that still today bring down the rest of Europe once a month with strikes because they're being told they can't retire on full pay at 55.

Thatchers view was why should the state subsidise you, get off you arse and do it your self. not a bad thing.

PiffStenis 07-23-2008 04:00 AM

Taxpayers should not pay for it - but I would agree if they'd do it right now.:evil-laug

Of course you would say that, you're loaded with cash. She only catered for the rich, and gave the boot to the working man.

almost 10% of the country was unemployed, and that is an insanely crazy figure.

DamianJ 07-23-2008 05:29 AM

She was an evil cunt that tore apart this country. She divided communities, destroyed our production of ANYTHING, ruined services through privatisation and was a horrible horrible inhumane whore.

I will go to the funeral to piss on her fucking grave.

Big John 07-23-2008 05:35 AM

Why can so few people manage an intelligent, balanced response when politics are mentioned?

She WAS an evil bitch. But as somebody else posted was needed at the time after the ballsup the labour government before her made. Her biggest problem was that the British public decided to leave her in power far too long and she took liberties with her power.

At least she had bigger balls than Blair on the world stage and the evil crap she pulled was very up front and obvious. The amount of nasty legislation and other crap Blair has managed behind the scenes during his over-long stint is insane.

On balance for every inexcusable nasty piece of crap she pulled she managed 2 or 3 things the country badly needed. For those around at the time with an IQ large enough to realise what was actually happening the truth of Thatcher is that she didn't ruin the country, nor was she totally good for it. As is the case with many things, the truth lies somewhere in between.

Umm, she did ruin the country buddy and we are still feeling the effects of her disasterous policies today. Crime soared, she ruined our industrys, unemployment was around 4-5 million, ruined the lives of many working class people.

I understand what you are saying about balance, but the point is, all i am mentioning is facts, none of this is opinion.
