Flash movies in paysites?
Hey,
We are thinking about adding flash to the movie formats that we have available at Photorama. Would that be interesting? Are lots of paysites using flash at this moment? Anyone planning to? Thank you in advance!! |
bump for myself.

Heres a friendly bump for you!

Are you talking about in the tours, or in the members areas? We run flash on both, well technically Mp4's using the h264 codec on a cdn network using flash media 3 servers. If you are interested hit me up. I can get you pointed in the right direction.

i guess Marie you mean flash use for the site tours, of course it works, the only thing to care about its surfers with slower connection, know your surfers to understand if you need flash previews.

Hey, thanks for the replies. What I meant is flash movies on the inside of member areas, not only the tours :)
Paysites mainly offer mpeg, wmv, sometimes mp4 now, would flash fit in that line or do you think that no one will use it? |
lots of companies offer Flash videos in addition to WMVs and MPEGs in their members areas, so yes, it is a good idea to do it. It will be the standard in a few years, mark my words.

i think flash is the new way to go
surfers are so used to watching vids via youtube that flash should be the standard player and THEN other downloadable options |
Yes! Offering it is a good thing and often used.

As a Mooching Surfer, I hate flash.
I dont even play movies that are in those flash embedded FHG's and shit. I hit the back button and move on to a WMV or MPEG that I can make fullscreen, change the playspeed, save to my computer so I can maybe stitch clips back together with windows movie maker or even MS-DOS with the copy /b command line. Yours truly, Mooching Surfer |

The main reason for anyone using flash videos is for displaying adds or for leaching/security issues if you want to take that route. Users have to be "on-line" visiting your pages in order to view your video. This is the great thing about using flash videos, youtube, etc etc... I'm not saying that FLVs are bad quality, they are fine, but members want videos they can DOWNLOAD and save, put on their laptop or ipod, etc etc... They don't want to have to be "on line" in order to play their favorite videos. No different than if you bought a song from itunes and couldn't save it to your mp3 player. :2 cents: |
What's the main advantage of using Flash media server as opposed to just hosting a standard flash video. Is it just the server load issue with huge numbers of members? Security?
