Do you listen different kind of music according to your moods?

Do you listen different kind of music according to your moods?
If you do, please post what kind of music choices you have

I'll start

Neutral mood - some easy listening "instant" music, for example the garage bands The Hives and White Stripes

Sad mood - certain Finnish bands that no foreigner can understand. They make my mood better with their lyrics

One man party mood - you know, still sitting at your computer, but you grab a couple of beers and preparing to go out and have some fun, almost anything goes from Bauhaus to Madonna

Driving the car - Santana

"I wish a was a musician" mood - Neil Young

ADL Colin 10-23-2002 03:40 AM

Yes. Sometimes I can't listen to music at all. Like for the past month I haven't played a single CD. I don't know what that means though.

steffie 10-23-2002 03:41 AM

Definitly and the entire month I have been listening to Eminem

Does that tell you something

Amputate Your Head 10-23-2002 03:42 AM

definately.... but now I mostly listen to 'beach' type music for all occasions....

Jamie 10-23-2002 03:43 AM

Success if my only option: Eminem "Lose Yourself"

Name an artist that has sold more albums in the last 6 months, name an artist that apeals to the public? Name an artist who has made more money in the last year? Name an artist who is more played on public radio than any other artist in the last year?

I'm sorry, but you're an idiot. I'll admit, he's got talent. Hell, i even like a bit of his stuff. But most talented artist of our generation? Who exactly is our generation? 'Cause listening to somebody bitch and moan about how mtv never used to play his music, gets really old, really fast.

All he does is talk about how controversial he used to be, and tries to make out that he still is, yet his material hardly raises an eyebrow anymore. He's had his day in the sun.

Fletch XXX 10-23-2002 03:52 AM

My daily listens range from Les Mcann and Miles Davis to Nashville Pussy, the Supersuckers, to System of a Down, Entombed & the Cult.

I'm sorry, you seem to have mistaken commercial appeal for talent.

Prediction. Conversation now moved to the definition of talent. Stardust Odds? 2:1

even a relatively unknown band like The Philosopher Kings have more talent then Eminem

i've seen street performers in North America and Europe that have more talent then most commercial musicians

talent is not gauged by success

Obviously you have no idea about sales and marketing.

I'll repeat what I've said: Eminem is the most talented artist in our generation. I don't give a shit if you like him, I don't give a fuck whether you agree with his lyrics. His sales, his lyrics appeal to our generation.

Should I site examples? Yes I will:

http://www.usatoday.com/life/cyber/t.../31/eminem.htm

http://www.opinionjournal.com/column...y/?id=30000010

Go back to listening to your classical music. Eminem owns the radio waves. Name an artist TODAY that is more played.

I dare you.. Name a person. You have 24 hours to reply.

Hah, twit. Eminem has a sound that is very catchy. Simple as that. Doesn't make him the most talented artist around at the moment. Hell, there are more talented artists within the rap genre alone.

"most talented" means he appeals to the masses. #1 artist on the top 40 for weeks in a row, more sales than any other artist. Name an artist who has sold more records in the last year? Talent is an appeal to the public.

Like I said, you don't have to agree with Eminem, you don't have to agree with his lyrics. But if you're objective you will KNOW that he is rocking the the muscial scene.

I thought you guys were "adult webmasters"?, I thought you guys were the cutting edge of opportunity? I thought you guys were entrepreneurs.

Yes this comes down to thinking outside of the "box". This is about recognizing success. And yes Eminem is the definition of "success". So how does this apply to you?

Jamie,

There are quite a lot of webmasters that like Eminem.

Cutting edge? I'd say adult webmaster tastes in music are fairly close to the norm for each of our demographics.

I think you've defined "talented" in such a way that many people won't agree with the definition. There are other words for what you are trying to say, "best-selling" for example.

Yep. I would bet all my money that the best selling beer in the world doesn't taste best, if there's any sense with this analogy

the masses don't necessarily "think outside the box", do you really think they can recognize talent?

i like some of his songs but in most of them there's very little meaning, he mostly sings about how great he is and how un-great others are. That's the general theme of rap and the reason i don't like it much, rappers sing about a corrupt system and with a "i don't give a fuck" attitude spread to the masses, it'll only lead to more corruption.

Liking Eminem isn't thinking outside the box. He's a corporate creation. He is the motherfucking box.

And please, don't try and convince me that because sheeple buy his CD's that that makes him talented or interesting. It's all marketing and most people buy into it because they are stupid and don't want to think.

Popular culture hasn't been this bland and uninteresting since the late 80's when the likes of Milli Vanilli, MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice were "rocking the musical scene".

We desperately need a revolution in music.

We'll that was a useless post.

Eminem is a revolution. Why do you think he sells more albums than anyone today? He's not a corporate creation, why the fuck do you think I listen to him. You obviously havne't listened to his lyrics.

His Lyrics sell his music. period.

Funny, I didn't hear much about him in the last mailing I got from the SF Symphony.

Saying that Eminem is rocking the musical scene is like saying that Gallo white zinfandel is rocking the wine scene. It might make a shitload of money, but I'm sure as hell not trading my bottle of 86 Mouton Rothschild for it. :winkwink:

I'd love to compare how many radio listners listen to the Symphony versus hip hop and rap!

I'd also like to know why there isn't a "symbphonyMTV" station?

What part of listening to his lyrics don't you understand? What part of how his lyrics appealing to the middle class america don't you understand? What does MTV or Radio have to do with his lyrics? You obviously haven't listened to his lyrics, nor do you listen to anything he is trying to say.

Its irrelevant. The point is that "the scene" is anything but objective, and entirely dependent upon who you talk to. I'm not part of the "scene" Eminem is supposedly rocking, so he is utterly irrelevant to me. Much like MTV, radio is a less than ideal medium for classical music listening.

Quote:

The point of most classical music is to create a soundscape from which extraneous visual stimulation could only detract. MTV is a short attention span format created to cater to the short attention span scene.

Classical music has its own scene, and its superstars are just as fawned over and wealthy as their rap/rock counterparts.

Enlighten me as to what is so revolutionary about Eminems lyrics. What has he said that nobody else has said?

Keep in mind I have heard Eminem probably longer than you have had pubes. Yes, he existed before MTV and Radio.
And we laughed at him back then as well. I guess the revolution passed me by.
