AIM for iPhone

Anyone tried it? Does it play nice with ICQ?

chri$tian 07-16-2008 02:20 PM

Yes it works great, since AOL bought ICQ many years ago, you just sign in with you ICQ number and password and your off, it even copied all my groups over and runs super smooth.

Mint! Thanks!

Does it buzz the phone or make a noise when you get a new IM? (I know i should just try, but i'm lazy)

XSV 07-16-2008 03:10 PM

It makes a noise if you have the AIM App open, but so far, no noise notification if I'm out of that App, nor does it show a little number letting you know you have messages on the home screen like it does for SMS, missed calls/messages or emails. But overall, best one I've used on a phone, especially the iPhone.

Thanks for the info
I was going to give it a try and see how it worked

I have it and it seems to work pretty good. i am sure there will be updates for it so it says if u have msgs waiting. I cannot figure out how to add more than 1 acct or how to sign out of the app other than pushing the apple home button. :upsidedow

Go into your settings window and scroll to the bottom for the AIM settings, inside there you have an option to "Sign-off on Exit" set to on for this.

SkeetSkeet 07-16-2008 03:25 PM

yup same here

That only works now for iPhones that are jailbroken (or Hacked) when they come out with an actually application for the iPhone App Store then the masses can use it.

The problem is to get the 3G iphone it has to be activated in store. http://www.freeit4less.com/ plans to sell unlocked phones but as of yet they do not have any for sale.

This is a very cool app with an easy-to-use interface. Despite having turned off the "sign off on exit" option, I still get signed off when I exit. If they fix this bug, it would really be a killer app. Who wants to keep the Aim screen up the whole time (which keeps the screen illuminated and drains battery)?

As it is, it just functions well to sign on for a few minutes to send a few IMs. I wish it would stay signed on and you'd get a # to pop up for each new IM like the phone and SMS.

I'm looking forward to Adium (www.adiumx.com) putting out their iPhone app. THAT will be the best iPhone IM client, I'm SURE!

The apps on the iPhone are tons of fun. I just got "urban spoon" (a fun restaurant finder) that is ORBITALLY MINT!

YEP!

I have a newer word now, I hesitate to reveal it in such a public forum. It's too good. But I already gave you a hint. Send me an email so i can tell you what it is. It's that good.
