I have a high value domain I am tring to sell...

Anyway another person is selling the same domain for 6k but I have the same domain but I have a - in the domain. I think my domain looks better typed anyway. How much $$ does that take off the value for having a - in it? I cant post the domain sorry.

First off where are the high value names

2nd the - is prolly worth 5-10% of non dash assuming they are both .com

maybe, maybe not, depends on the word combination.

for example if it runs together to be a word that is not so recognizable (if adjacent vowels or consonants don't spell out something instantly readable) then a hyphenated version that spells the concept clearly is more memorable, thus more valuable.

also if the word/phrase is commonly used in a hyphenated version when seen in print the domain will also be worth more in the hypenated version.

a quick and dirty check:
put "bigirl" into yahoo and see how many returns you get.
now put "bi-girl" into yahoo and see how many returns you get.

now guess which domain is more valuable.

Fact is that if you advertise bi-girl.com then bigirl.com will get a proportion of your traffic through leakage because people always type domains without the dash. If you advertise bigirl.com then bi-girl.com will not get a proportion of the traffic through mis types. Its a one way leakage and thats why bigirl.com (non dash) is much more valuable.

Most sites in dot com do not use a dash and that has become something of a standard.

a 6k domain isn't exactly high value. if you have that domain with a dash in it, its nowhere near high value. maybe a couple hundred bucks.

AlienQ - BANNED FOR LIFE 07-15-2008 02:29 AM

Why can't you post the domain?

It's always the same. People ask for advice or an appreciation of value but don't give out any info. Totally pointless.

v4 media 07-15-2008 04:35 AM

Sexy-ladies.com?

BlackCrayon 07-15-2008 06:37 AM

Domain sales with a hyphen are rare. That is domains selling for a good amount with a hyphen are rare.

Thats just a stupid way of looking at it really. That would be like saying free-porn.com is a better domain than freeporn.com. Think about it. Search engines see hyphens as spaces, thats why you get such a difference in results but it certainly doesn't make it a better domain or even a domain that would do better in the SE's.

Why not? Are you selling it or not?

moneybiz 07-15-2008 02:30 PM

Yea didnt mean to say high ticket domain but it is to me :)
Its a domain name associated to the pharmaceutical industrustry.

woj 07-15-2008 02:46 PM

Based on the description, you might be able to find some sucker to pay few hundred bucks for it... but since you are reluctant to post what it is, there is probably something wrong with, banned from SEs or has a trademark in it or you probably don't even own it yet and are just hoping to flip it for a quick profit...

Dirty F 07-15-2008 02:49 PM

Stop hoping its worth that much. Its not.

qxm 07-15-2008 02:50 PM

domain with "a" = worthless..........

That is a good point, the domain did appear to be banned that is why no one picked it up. So I bought it anyway and was going to go through the work to get it relisted but it isnt banned and its unrealistic to sell a domain for that much $$ here and thats why I dont even care to post it here.

sortie 07-15-2008 03:49 PM
