I've got the Harmon Kardon SoundSticks... They sound great.

They are listed for $170 at the Apple Store.... I think I found them at Circuit City or Best Buy when I bought them... I paid like $250 if I remember right.

Logitech Z5500's. They were around $600 when I first got 'em, now they're down to just over your budget: $238 on amazon. One HELL of a base on them.

If you don't buy Klipsch, slap yourself.

I got rid of the surround crap and got a nice pair of M-Audio reference monitors. What an amazing difference.

I guess you could create a surround setup with extra pairs if you really wanted to.

I still have the same set of speakers I bought for the first computer I ever built. They were good quality back then a fairly expensive model from Altec Lansing that I just can't bring my self to replace.

They work good so I just have no reason to change them but I bought them around 2000 so they are damn old. :1orglaugh

Do these also do well hooked up to an HDTV monitor? (sorry if it sounds like a stupid question).

Same here. Mine are JBL 100 watt'ers, also bought in 2000.

They still rock though.

I have 2.1 home made speakers and I'm very happy with the sound quality.

Marialovesporn 07-11-2008 04:25 AM

I bought a cable and plugged my computer in an old Yamaha hifi amplifier with nice B&W speakers. The cable was like 10 Euro's. The sound is amazing
