Banners related question for webmasters and sponsors
After some long time being busy with other things, I recently started working on few sites and I came up to this problem..
There are some really nice sponsors out there, just perfect for my sites BUT their banners aren't really decent or they don't have banners for all standard dimensions. Some banners out there look fugly, some are updated back in 2005 and every surfer saw them. Many sites don't even have one, for example, I need vertical and skyscraper type of banners for my blogs, can't find them on many sites I promote. I might build those banners on my own but it will really be extra time consuming. Question for webmasters: What do you do in cases like this? Do you build banners on your own? Do you contact sponsors with request for some decent banners (I really did that)? Or you just don't care and put text links and/or old banners? Question for sponsors: How often do you update your banners? Do you have all regular sizes? If not, why not? I expect some honest answers here.. Maybe I'm wrong but having an interesting/attractive/alluring banner on your site is important part of advertising. :upsidedow |
Hi Ecchi22, you need to check your websites and keep your banners at least within a year or two of an associate programs posted banners for usage... You most likely will need to go to your associate programs webpages and grab a few more recent ones...

I like to build my own for my own reasons. I however never have a problem with asking for one (assuming I can and will send traffic) and as a program owner I also have no problems with the same.
On a program side it often is a thing that just gets either overlooked or bypassed no adays. Not as many people use banners as they used to. So programs may not have a constant fresh supply coming in for established sites. Specially with all of the other tool demands affiliates have that take up resources. However most would be happy to have some made for you. As for sizes well regular is a funny word. The idea of regular has changed by a few pixels so many times now that it can be annoying. Not to mention so many affiliates want odd shapes and sizes as they either get more attention or they can squeeze them in better. |
i will normally make custom banners for the situation.

All of our banners here
Joon & Lily could use some new ones, and also for the program. But all the others are fresh. And we make custom banners for our affiliates for all our sites. |
This is from a webmaster standpoint: I check what they have first. If they don't have what I want or need for a certain spot, I ask them to make some. Most of the time sponsors will do that. Depending on how quickly I need the banner, I'll make it myself though. That just means I have a very unique banner for the site I'm promoting. Can't go wrong with that.

Build them yourself, that is what I have always done.

I know what my traffic is generally going to click on. If their banners look close to that, then I use them, if not, then I'll make my own banners.
|
I ask for custom banners, if not I try to make enticing textlinks

I almost always end up making my own banners. This allows me to have banners that fit in with my site's look and modify them in ways that make the visitor click. They're also "fresh" and not on any other sites.

For the banners see sig!!
