Fuck Nintendo and their watered-down Rock Band

Guess I should have read the review of the Wii version before I ordered it to know there is no downloadable songs and no online play

The game is still fun and these white drums rock but the 63 songs it has are getting tired and are nothing compared to the hundreds PS3/Xbox360 get.

You'd think considering it took Nintendo months later than those systems to get it out they would have added stuff, not taken away most features. You can't even create a character. Lame.

I'll let my gf know. She's wanted the wii version since they first started the commercials.

kaori 07-06-2008 10:41 AM

that's too bad... although I've almost spent more on the PS3 downloaded songs than on the game itself!

Well if you look at the specs for the Wii and compare them to the Xbox 360 or PS3 you'd understand why it's lame. The Wii doesn't have a hard drive and can only hold 512 MB of data. Otherwise you have to buy SD memory cards. You're like a guy who buys Kia Rio then asks why it's not perfoming like a Corvette.

The Wii technologywise is nothing more than glorified PS2 or original Xbox. Maybe one day all those idiots that bought a Wii because is was "cheap" and had a gimmicky controller will realize that.

C_U_Next_Tuesday 07-06-2008 03:08 PM

I watched some friends play the xbox version this past weekend..it was as hilarious as Karaoke. They were doing Grateful dead songs and not a damn one of them was old enough to have ever seen the Grateful dead :1orglaugh

the wii is worth buying for zelda and mario galaxy, mario kart alone, thats not even factoring in the wii being the only "party" game console. Games like Mario Party, Rayman, wii sports and others simply can't be touched when you have like 4 players.

I play all of my "real" games either on PC or xbox 360. Gran Turismo is the first game actually making me want to buy a PS3 which way back in the day the first gran turismo game on PS2 was why I bought that system.

How many games on each console are unique to that console that truly make people buy the console for the game? Most of the good games are available on the 360 AND the PS3 so the edge in that will go to the 360 due to being launched so much earlier and a massively larger install base. WTF has the PS3 had to be worth buying it for? The wii simply has more games that are only available on the wii than both the PS3 and the 360 combined BUT most people have the wii set aside as a "party" system only and do the real gaming on PC + either 360 or PS3. Maybe this Xmas is when I'll have all 3 consoles again. YES I've had a PS3 (bought one at launch, camped for it and had it a month)

I only bought the Wii for the multi-player games I figured would be fun drinking games :)

I'm going to buy a PS3 soon as there is a decent mod chip out here, so they'll sell games for it (maybe 1 store out of every 500 in Costa Rica sell original games for any system heh). Still, I'd feel stupid buying a 2nd Rock Band.

Another thing that annoyed me was I figrued Nintendo's would all be wireless, but only the guitar is.

Bama 07-06-2008 03:24 PM

Though rare, I like to rock out on a fake guitar now and then but my system comes with any and every song ever written - and to top it off, it was completely free...

It's called an AIR GUITAR!

I hear the cost of the blu-ray burner + blank discs will discourage ticos from copying the games for years to come, and keep the 360 the popular system here.

The Wii has the worst ratio garbage games of any console in the history of console gaming. This is fact and not really debatable at this point. Aside from the few first party gems (Zelda, Mario anything, etc) the rest of the offerings are crap ports of some really shitty games. They've even ported a few FLASH based games and are selling them for $40 a pop.

There are still a few exclusives for both of the other consoles that will ultimately have most real gamers plunking down the money to buy both (and maybe even a Wii).

Right now, my PS3 is finally getting some love. It's a much better media center than the 360 (but still not as good as an old XBox with the XBox Media Center mod). I can generally play COD4 online with other adults and not screaming, cussing kids that are always on XBL.

360 has the edge in games, but I think that in the next year we'll be seeing developers finally getting the hang of developing for the PS3. Some of the current titles that are available on both system are slightly better looking on the PS3. This is just the current crop, not anything from the initial PS3 release.

They still have WOW, Starcraft, Diablo 3 and anything else Blizzard might have up their sleeves to contend with.

If anything there will be an ISO launcher similar to the one available for the PSP. You'll just store the games on a big HDD and load from there. It's just a matter of time.

Yeah that won't fly here :1orglaugh

Bandwidth sucks, and it's legal to sell burned copies. I buy my PS2 games burned on DVD-R with printed labels and even a printed case, for $2 at a store at the mall.

:1orglaugh - Can't really beat that, if you can't download fast or store them all.

I've downloaded one PS3 title to see how long it would take my connection to down the whole thing. With a speedy torrent, it came in just under 24 hours and was a 20+ gig download.

geedub 07-06-2008 04:25 PM

what happened to actual instruments?

invest in a giganews account. I always get my full 8-12Mb that my comcast cable can deliver. I've used it on some faster connections and even had 100Mb sustained downloads.

Sure you have to pay $25/mnth for a proper account but if you get all of your movies for a month from it its totally worth it. I'm about to mod my wii and download every wii game I care about. I've been getting all my nintendo DS games from it for the longest time. I get all of my TV shows lightning fast. you're "normal" tv show is like 350Mb so its under 10 minutes a pop but the HD ones come in the 1-1.2Gb range and take a little extra time. My OTA HD works pretty well here but sometimes I forget to schedule a recording.

I can't get seem to play online with others from my 360.. GH3 works great online..
