jakethedog 07-05-2008 10:21 AM

Adium is best for mac in my opinion .. loads all chat mediums, is slick and fast .. you are going to LOVE your macbook... Ihaven't shut mine off for 6 months and it purrs like a kitten ..well a kitten on steriods .. but a kittten none the less ..

iMind 07-05-2008 10:46 AM

AdiumX is cool.... be prepared to hear people telling you they never got your message and vice versa tho .. it's hit and miss I find.

WebairGerard 07-05-2008 11:16 AM

I love my macbook and been using Adium as well. now and then an issue with it like most chat programs but I still find it to be the best by far. enjoy! :)

also check out pure-mac.com for some cool programs

macker 07-05-2008 11:44 PM

VIPimp 07-05-2008 11:47 PM

You turned mac???
What a moron. I can't fucking believe you!

Oh.. btw.. I just got my first mac 2 days ago. Kinda excited to get started. Any advice you wanna pass along for FCP is greatly appreciated. :)

Godsmack 07-06-2008 03:50 AM

Loving my Macs as well.. just got the Imac 24 3.06 4 gig and it's super fast..
What i like most about it is that it makes NO noise!..

Adium X is pretty ok, not perfect though...

Sosa 07-06-2008 10:58 AM

I plan on getting one in a few months. Just trying to decide if i want the 15" or 17" macbook pro. Where did you buy yours from?

yahoo-xxx-girls.com 07-06-2008 10:59 AM

You know Mac's OS is SOS right... ^^

payd2purv 07-06-2008 11:02 AM

I've owned macs for the last 10+ years along with non Apple pcs...

My latest was a MBP about a year ago..

I will not be buying another Mac ever again.

It's just not worth it to own Apple anymore.

Your gonna love FCP studio 2 .. I'm a martox PC man .. from my very first suite some 8 years ago, a Matrox Digisuite LE on NT platform. To the last suite I cut on a RTX. Color Correction with studio 2 is great, it's an all in one bundle, from grafix, fx to color correction and DVD authoring, multi camera timelines.,etc So far my only draw back is dealing with Apple formats. but i'm starting to get the hang of it.

Evil E 07-07-2008 09:03 PM

Congrats Vid, if you you have any questions for video editing stuff on macs, my friend does all of it with it(mostly final cut...) lmk

JC-OCCash 07-07-2008 10:10 PM

Love my macs. Congrats on the buy.

Adium is the obvious choice for ICQ.
Smultron is an awesome free text editor.
Audacity is a good free audio recorder/mixer.
Switch is a great free audio format converter.

EuroRev_Stacey 07-08-2008 03:32 AM

Congrats on your new MAC! Love to have the Macr Air soon :)

Jens Van Assterdam 07-08-2008 03:35 AM

I caught the Mac bug a while back...Omnigraffle is an awesome program to use with Mac's too.

DomP_nl 07-08-2008 10:39 AM

wow no hate posts so far...

I always love to tell them to stick with windows :(

as for great aps: quicksilver (automate workflows and start stuff fast), pathfinder (replacement for finder with a shell app) and imagewell when you have to crop or edit a pic fast.. for ftp you want to use transmit..

michaelsb 07-08-2008 10:49 AM

I use the web based meebo.com for all my IM communication.

Congrats Vid.. You gonna love it.. :thumbsup

Of course you'll have a small learning curve, but in the end you'll turn into a Mac lover, like everybody who try them do :)

Been on Macs since forever (Still have my 1988 B&W Mac classic, somewhere)

Yes AdiumX is the best for ICQ, AIM, etc...

yeah adium handles all your communication needs including multiple accounts. But aperture is a great first start for editing and organizing your photos. PM me if you want some advice. And final cut pro is amazing for video. I am a mac only condo;p

Voodoo 07-24-2008 10:34 PM

I just got mine. It's pretty sweet.

To Mac users: please note that most options you can choose from to capture at with the Easy Setup option will capture your footage with proprietary codecs and Windows editors will not be able to work with them.
AIC and AppleProRes are obvious but it gets worse (if you use a newer version of FCP).

Instead of capturing HDV as MPEG2 as it should, FCP wraps it in a version of MOV that can only be read by MAC systems with FCP installed. All others will get a white screen and audio.

This is the case even if you DO NOT specifically select a proprietary codec but the seemingly logical HDV 60i Firewire Easy Setup option.

So in case you have a shared workload be warned that Windows-based editors will not be able to work with your stuff.

(I did find a complicated workaround to work with footage captured with the new HDV60i Firewire/MOV option, more about that on my blog).

Why don't you just render out as animation or PhotoJpeg. That worked for me.

That's basically what I did (PhotoJpeg...see steps on my blog). Point is it's a huge pain and not the most ideal option.
