A transsexual who was born a woman but now lives as a man has given birth to a baby girl.

American Thomas Beatie went into labour early yesterday and had to be rushed to hospital.

The 34-year-old kept his female reproductive organs when he legally became a man 10 years ago following hormone treatment.

His baby girl was conceived through artificial insemination using donor sperm and Beatie's own eggs.

Today, Beatie told the US magazine, People, that his newborn was "healthy and doing well".

He added: "The only thing different about me is that I can't breast-feed my baby. But a lot of mothers don't."

My thoughts are that as the baby was a girl, will it have problems in the future?

I mean if the mother has been taking 'Heroic' doses of male hormones for ten years, surly that may affect the baby girl?

If the baby had been born a male, then I cant see a problem, but the fact its female leads me to wonder...

I'm talking purly on a medical level regarding the hormomes....
