How do art galleries work?

Is the idea that you take art to a gallery display it, and then sell it? Do they have some that are just for exhibition? I'm up to my ass in editing, I hit GFY during the quick renders and all of a sudden an art idea hit me.

It would take a couple of years to complete. The problem is I'm not sure if people would buy it. It's highly erotic in nature, and so I wonder if people would find it too vulgar.

Do you tour the gallery? Or is it like in one place for a few nights and that's it? Or is it more like a month, or does it stay there until sold?

I've been to almost all the galleries in Maui, but that art never changes. I've seen the same sculptures in the same galleries for years.

My friend runs the gallery at La Luz and they have people submit their art then they choose artists to show. They have a big opening party then the art stays up for a month where it is sold. They have a yearly show where they have about 200 artists show their work.

Everything you mentioned is possible. :-)

You should get involved with your local art community if that is something you want to get into. I have a friend that had some work displayed before. Basically, in his case, some people he knew were putting on a show at a local gallery. Everything was for sale, if somebody wanted to purchase, afterwards they all took their work home.

each gallery is different. find the galleries you think you art would fit in with and ask them how they work.

The problem is.. it's kind of along the lines of that one guy that just put elephant shit on a painting of the virgin mary.

It's NOt that, but it could be considered to vulgar. I think there is a fine line between erotic art, and obscenity (in some people's eyes)

Ask Boy Alley, he left adult awhile to venture into that area of expertise...

there are galleries that are friendly to/specialize in that type or work -

google around for "erotic art" - find someone and hit up the site owners for galleries that may specialize in the stuff ...
