Ouch. What have you done in the past few days that may have contributed to this? Any weird installs? Any new major programs?

Want to save your data ?
Get an IDE ( or SATA of the drive is ) external USB box ( about 10$ ), pull out your drive from laptop , insert drive in box, connect to USB , copy to your local drives. Once copied, you can always try to copy that " ntoskrnl.exe " to the proper location on the drive and see if it boots up in the laptop. If not, reformat ( while in the USB box ) and reload windows. |

I had the same thing happen to my lappie on failed Vista update during their last round last week...
Had to use system restore discs ordered from manu weeks ago in anticipation of something going wrong, but got everything back. If you can't wait on manufacturer restore discs, or they just aren't working which happens quite often too... use the external case options... Pick up an external case that uses the mini sata/iede drives that laptops do, pull the drive and connect it up to your main PC to back up your info and do a fresh format... I'm around on ICQ all day if you need any walkthroughs on stuff. |

Pull the drive out of the laptop ( they are smaller and thinner than normal drives ). Check to see if it is IDE ( about 80 pins on two rows ) or SATA ( flat small connector ). Buy a external USB laptop box for either IDE or SATA . Put the drive in, connect to other PC with the USB cables included. You can then access your data, copy it to another hard drive ( the whole drive if you wish ) , or burn data to a DVD media. |

when you say you couldn't bootto the cd, was your cd the first option to boot to in your device list? You could try rebuilding the boot config file if you can boot into recovery mode etc
