Iphone 3G - tempted to get one...
 

Anyone pre-ordered an Iphone 3G already? I'm very tempted to do so as I'm planning to get a new phone anyways...

The only thing that sucks are the ridiculous plans they're bundling them with :(

The new iPhones are 199 and 299

they are locked for service and 2 year contract

its $199 but they're putting a bunch of ridiculous monthly fees on it which will make it just as expensive as the current iphone

it's been like that all the time. you can only get it in combination with a fucked up contract.

Unlocked phones are always a tad bit more expensive also the phone is going to be brand spanking new so yes the new iphone unlocked will likely be going for around $700

The phone is coming to Toronto to Rogers who I am already with.

My current iPhone is unlocked by myself.

I do not plan to get the new iPhone right away but I am on a few stores lists so if I get the call i'll end up buying.

where do you preorder them at? the AT&T store i went to said its first come first serve for the iPhone on 7/11

the plan i have now i pay $165 a month. $100 for unlimited yack and $40 for unlimited data + text and the rest i get ass raped for taxes.

As far as I know, you can pre-order if you live in Germany and some other T-Mobile serviced countries in Europe. Those of us living here in the states can't pre-order them, as you'll have to go into an ATT or Apples Store on the 11th to get yours.

I'm getting the 16 GB black on the 11th.

but they're (Apple) not giving you the phone for $299 (16gb) at the store right?

the guy at AT&T told me that you have to sign a 2 year contract to get the phone for that price, if not its $599. i havent read up to much on it, but i thought AT&T said they would eat some of the cost to attract new customers

Considering I'm coming to ATT from Sprint, yes, I will get the 16 GB iPhone 3G for the $299 subsidized price since I will be signing up for the 2 year committment.

The unsubsidized price for the 16GB iPhone will be $699 ATT announced today. Unsubsidized iPhones will be available, but not immediately, at a yet-to-be-determined date.

If they do it the way they did the original phone you can buy it and not activate it thus it can be unlocked and resold. If you buy it at the apple store you do not activate it until you dock it with your mac/PC and activate it through iTunes. If you buy it at an AT&T store that may be different.

i heard, that you won't be able to buy a phone as you could with this current model, go home and activate it throught iTunes ("sign the contract"). Now, the process of registration (activation, or signing the contract) will be done right there in the Apple store, and you will have to continue it at home.
That means that you won't be able to get the phone w/o a contract whatsoever at first, but later Apple may start selling iPhones w/o contract for way higher prices.

It'll be interesting to see what will happen.

I will wait a few weeks and rather read a few reviews before buying one. There are many great phones out there without stupid restrictions and a huge software base. Just take a look at the new HTC Diamond, it really rocks! :2 cents:

I was sold until i read that they had dropped the 200 text messages that are included in the current plan while also raising the price.

I don't really text much but for some reason a lot of people send me texts and I hate paying for them.

it's out in canada July 11th . with Fido .. I was about to wait for it . but then I thought FUCK it !! I can't stand my chocolat LG .. So I opted for a smart phone instead .. Damn I hope I made the right choice !

I'm just fine with my current iphone, not in a big rush to change contracts, etc.

Why would I pay someone $700 for an unlocked phone when I know people who will do it for free for me?

because somebody will have to cut their contracts! You won't be able to go in the store buy the phone and just unlock it when you get home...not anymore.

not true i have bought a few without ever getting service.

You can get one for around 500 (16gig) unlocked.. 700 is a bit too much.


I would think the same for 3g when it comes out
