The impact of small things on TV

was just thinking... little things can become such big things when magnified by the mass media (duh)... for instance, the German coach who was sent to the stands for arguing with the opposing coach.. they kept showing him up in some VIP box watching his team play, etc... one shot, they caught him smoking a cigarette... yeah i know, no big deal.. he can smoke... but imagine all the non-smokers out there, or kids or whoever who saw that... imagine the millions (billions?) of people who saw that... surely there was at least thousands if not tens of thousands of ppl who that left an impression on and will some day, take up smoking because in the back of their mind It was OK for the German soccer coach, so its OK for them...

yes i know it happens in movies all the time too and probably with the same effect, but this is live, real, tv... so i'd think it had more substance behind it.. in a movie ppl could think 'they're acting'... shrug 4am here maybe i should go to sleep... or take up smoking :winkwink:

Yeah you are right- I shouldn't have wasted 2 minutes on this.

thats one of the reasons that some of the sports clubs are trying to set limits about the hair and and such on the players. It effects the children, and also just makes them look unprofessional.
