Idea to protect content (from tube/torrent/etc)
Just an idea... I'd like to try it myself but I don't have the programming knowledge nor the budget that would have to go into developing such a piece of software
Intro: (You can skip the intro) Don't know how many of you game - but the gaming industry (well particulary counterstrike) faced a big problem with cheaters probably around 2001. A program was developed called PunkBuster. You needed to have PunkBuster running on your computer (which would automatically update, and autorize you as a legit player) and do all sorts of checks to make sure you were not running cheats/hacks. Video content can be protected by DRM, which is heavily, heavily flawed, and can also be easily worked around by using a screen recorder. Meaning someone with a legitimate DRM license to your video content simply has to screen record/capture your video to then have it unprotected. So what is it? A video player that uses a specific video type (like how RealPlayer uses .rm) that authenticates users, similarly to DRM (so that only users authenticated with a Username/Password from your membership site can play the video) but also has a backend that checks to make sure no screen recording software/processes are running on your computer. Benefit: Besides the instant protection of all of your new content, if everyone that was producing new, HD, premium content, started using it, eventually tube sites and the like would be left with all outdated/over used content... Just an idea... on the other hand if it was implemented who knows if crackers/hackers would be able to somehow still get around it :Oh crap |
people paying for porn dont like to be botherd by adding extra programs on their computer.. it would push them away from paying
maybe it wouldnt, but you can always test it out |
Really I think you all have been a bit too nice to surfer's.
I think it's time to pull back a bit. Only way it'd work is if the industry pulled together... Because the one site that makes it easier for the surfer is going to get the long term traffic.. Also I can record anything that hits my monitor... So even if the file had a DRM I could capture the video to a seperate file still... |

The problem is that ass-hole paysite owners would start loading it up with spyware and other crap and ruin the whole idea. |

Exactly! as soon as that starts happening then legitimate websites can kiss their members goodbye because everyone will be tarred by the same brush. :2 cents: |

Never mind him. He is high on drugs. |

Consumers who subscribe to a pay site loathe DRM as it is, and relatively few online sites use it anymore as far as I can tell. There is no chance of convincing anyone to download an app to prevent them from screen recording. Gamblers may tolerate it because they might figure it makes the game legit for everyone so it will prevent them from being screwed, but for porn they are going to resent any DRM and either cancel their recurring billing after downloading all your content or possible even go so far as to purposefully put your content up on file sharing just for spite.

Like the poker sites did. That'd work but already has a work around.. |
there is not magic way to do it
|
sounds like a good idea

But if everyone producing fresh, rich, new content, (particularly in HD) started using something like this, then they'd deal with it and wouldn't be able to go somewhere else. |

Probably wouldn't work, but at least you're thinking :)

First thing that has to happen is the adult industry has to at least be OPEN to the idea instead of relying on one experiment with DRM nearly a decade ago that didn't work out.
As for crackers finding a work around, of course that will happen. But so to can a locksmith pick the lock on my front door, that doesn't mean I leave it open. PC Games are good example used by the original poster. There are ways to steal PC games but it's hard enough that only the very motivated and very broke do it. The rest just find it easier to fork over $30. Same has to happen here. You'll never stop piracy but you need to MANAGE it. |

There may even be a way to detect if a program is screen recording, regardless of what program it is, some sort of process that it detects... I wouldn't know... I'm not a programmer :disgust |

Sure they can leave and stay with all the old stuff on tubes etc but paying members prefer to have a constant supply of new material - no pay, no new material. They'll get used to it. |
I wonder how difficult it would be to program something like this....
