Just got my new VISA card. Paysite owners might find this interesting... why?
I got a new business account a while back from Lloyds TSB, after closing one with the Bank of Scotland. The VISA card arrived Friday morning.
Earlier today I successfully added the card to a PayPal account, placed some ads using Google keywords, and signed up for some small virtual hosting account for a project I'm working on. Felt like watching a bit of porn... so tried to join Adult Bouncer. iBill declined the card. No problem. Go for the secondary processor. Card declined. Next best thing? Deluxe Pass. Went direct to their join page, to join via Paycom.net. Card declined. Sent to CCBill as secondary. Card declined. Then directed to an iBill page... card declined. This was getting pretty ridiculous, so I decided to try a site using Glo-bill to see if it would work. Tried Darren's site. Card declined. Personally, I can think of no reason why this happened. UK isn't a "high risk" country. The account is brand new, a business account with a solid balance. The card is new. I've never had a VISA card before, only Switch and Solo cards, which were debit cards. I've never had a loan in the past, no owed money on my accounts and no outstanding payments (basically, I have no credit history). I have no idea why this happened, but the card was declined by iBill, CCbill, Globill and Paycom. Yet, it was accepted by Google, Paypal and a $5/month host. Makes me wonder. :) |
gotta pay your bill man....
|
called the visa office the issuing bank..... u gotta be upfront to them ;)
|
Only thing outstanding is the hosting bill from Phatservers (for $3k) which is sent via wire transfer anyway. Never used my card with them. Not that it matters, the card is brand new. It's kind of like owing your brother a $5 bill. Doesn't affect your bank account.
Guess I'll have to stick to the hacked password sites. ;-( |
Too many charges too fast to external countries.
Happens to me everytime I get a new card until I phone up and explain that I'm involved in internet work and travel alot because of it. ... won't even get into the fun I've had on joint accounts as my wife makes a charge in Toronto minutes after I've make a charge in Hong Kong. |

Will try again in a few days. |
I have "broken in" a few Australian Visa Cards,
Some card issuing banks seem to have their fraud prevention set higher than others for internet tranactions. Some_idiot is correct about doing too many foreign charges to quickly, Doing what you descibed raises a red flag on their system that the card details may have been comprised and to limit the banks exposure, the card is declined with all further charges for a day or so and their system monitors what happens within that period. If after a few days the card is not reported stolen, any unusual charges been reported by the holder or any other problems, the card will start working again. (With one of the banks i was using, their fraud prevention section contacted me by phone to verify that I had used my visa card at ....... and ...... and......., ) They did this twice and then that was it.. Once you build up a history slowly on that card for doing multiple internet transactions, you wont have too many problems unless you spend thousands per day with multiple suppliers, it will then halt the card for a few days again. |

Seriously though I had exact same problem with my Lloyds TSB visa, I reported it lost and got a new one and everything was fine.. |
Makes you wonder how many sales you actually have if cards weren't declined like that.

They may of blacklisted your name. A couple of years ago someone chaged like $2000 to my card and so I charged it all back. Also a few bad business deals meant I charged back a couple of other transactions, for the next 6 months I couldn't signup using my card or even my new card I got from VISA.
Thats my experience, not sure how they do there fraud checking. Sammy |

He's right |
If you still want to try; Adult Bouncer has their own billing company now... They say it declines up to 40% less than ibill/ccbill.

I'll give you the insider lowdown.
Visa (worldwide) has a fraud prevention system called Falcon. Falcon monitors activity on every account. It can be triggered in one of the following ways: - It compares your purchases to past purchases on the account. If you usually only spend $200-$300 a month and then suddenly you drop $4000 on the card, Falcon will most likely be triggered. - It tracks spending geographically. If you've never used your card outside the country and suddenly there's a purchase in another country (especially minutes/hours apart), it'll be triggered. - Several online purchases over a few hours. - Several purchases minutes apart. - Several automated machine transactions (payphones, gas pumps, movie ticket distributors, etc). The reason for that is when someone steals a card, the first thing they'll do (if they know what they're doing is try it in one of those machines) - Large amounts at high-risk merchants, electronics stores, etc. - Several declines in a row (ex. your card is over-limit and you try to use it at 5-10 stores) In every case, the card is actually not declined, but instead referred. The message on the terminal says "Call Issuer". The merchant is supposed to call your issuer, a Cust. Serv. Rep from the bank will confirm the transaction on your account, reset the Falcon system and the merchant can then re-do the transaction successfully. Quote:

2 days after getting an Australian card, I was doing all sorts of business with it and my bank was ringing me with every new charge that came through. Even things for $1.99US. so must agree with some_idiot about the charges being to fast and international.

My bank called me tonight for the very reason that I had used the card for many different countries within an hour period. I told them the charges were legit and they said "thank you for verifying this"
I only get called by them every 2-3 months. |
It can be worse. I lived in the US for 4 years and then moved to the Bahamas. After using my card a couple of times it was blocked. I called my bank and they said it was blocked due to fraud prevention and I had to come by their office with 2 ID's to unblock it. Luckily I already had a flight to the US booked otherwise I would have been stranded in a country without a lot of means to leave it. Sure I had another card but still ....
