Gas prices - Do you really care?

Oil just hit an all time high today and I have not changed anything I do. I just pay more and complain once in a great while...

Spunky 06-26-2008 06:56 PM

Considering the amount of money I piss away ,gas is probably the cheapest

DateDoc 06-26-2008 06:57 PM

Does not bother me but I drive on average about 5 miles per day. I feel for those with long commutes though.

Eriic 06-26-2008 06:59 PM

Does it matter if I care or not? Prices are going to keep going up, up and away....

st0ned 06-26-2008 07:01 PM

It doesn't really bother me. I work from home and don't do much driving. The only thing I kinda notice is the amount road trips cost me now.

ladida 06-26-2008 07:02 PM

I dont really care that much. I just watch where i go with car bit more then i did before, but overall, not much changed for me. Even if it goes double. I'm more concered about all other things getting more expensive because of the gas.

woj 06-26-2008 08:41 PM

Doesn't really effect me much either...

mozadek 06-26-2008 08:44 PM

Doesn't affect me that much because my commute to work is less than 5 miles.

After Shock Media 06-26-2008 09:11 PM

Personally I drive very little and always group my trips anyways. However I do care a great deal as I depend on the average person to supply me with my money and I will never loose contact with my consumer base.

GAMEFINEST 06-26-2008 09:21 PM

nah not really

Thank you... :thumbsup

Everytime someone makes a gas/oil price going up post, this should be the reply from everyone...

J. Falcon 06-26-2008 10:04 PM

Higher gas prices means everything you consume costs more money to get to where your neighborhood. I don't see how it cannot affect you.

Violetta 06-27-2008 12:00 AM

dont care much. Nothing I can do anyway

Gasper 06-27-2008 01:57 AM

It does affect me in two ways. Directly - paying more for food, gas and other stuff (which requires oil) and indirectly, because other people have less money to spend for porn.

Socks 06-27-2008 02:09 AM

I had to stop building my lifesize leggo pyramid :/

Some Guy 06-27-2008 02:14 AM

I work from home and seriously drive one mile a day, so it doesn't affect me much in that regard. However, it does seem to affect sales which is no good for any of us.

StuartD 06-27-2008 02:17 AM

Wow, you drive less? Pay just a little more at the pump?? Yup, no reason to care there.

Oh but wait, the rising prices of produce and other products does suck, thanks to their higher transportation costs.
The higher prices of services that people offer due to their higher expenses now... that kinda sucks.
The economy going in the toilet due to some rich bastards getting richer at our expense, that really sucks... on a national/global scale.
The fact that paying a little more for gas now than yesterday isn't so bad, but paying double what I was paying a couple years ago really is pretty bad.
Then there's the people who buy less memberships, hire me less to do projects (when I was freelance) and share less with me because they're all bothered by the gas prices more than I am... that sucks a bit.

Do I really care? It would be stupid not to.

bausch 06-27-2008 02:21 AM

Nope, I still drive around aimlessly when bored and cruise for hours driving around with no particular destination just to listen to music and because of boredom (I have nothing else to do sometimes). I probably waste shitloads of gas driving around just cruising for HOURS.

I work from home but lately I just enjoy driving around the streets just for the sake of driving around listening to music. It's a party in my car (party of one). I been cruising MORE now that its more expensive vs before, why I dont know. I am sure it's affecting my sales since people buy less memberships but I personally dont care if i have to pay more.

Actually I never even look at the price, thats how much i dont care. I just pump it in my car and thats it.

Sarah_Jayne 06-27-2008 02:39 AM

I care because food costs are going up and are other goods that are transported by anything that need fuel.

Jens Van Assterdam 06-27-2008 02:49 AM

I sold my car and bought a biiiike! No shit, in AMS you just need no car anymore. You cant park anywhere and cant get through the city as easy as with a bike.

Jensen 06-27-2008 02:49 AM

yup, our norwegian krone depends heavily on oil prices. When oil goes up, norway cashes in and the exchange rate versus the dollar increases :/

dav3 06-27-2008 05:29 AM

why the hell wouldn't anyone care?

96ukssob 06-27-2008 06:22 AM

it bothers me a bit, but more towards the people who cant afford it.

my :2 cents: is that this really effects the lower-middle class of society more than anything. these are the people who work two jobs to support their family and cant afford a car that is new than 1992, which in return get shitty gas mileage. For them, the additional $10 in gas per week may be 20% of their food budget. but since gas is a necessity to most, they have no choice but to pay.

however, in the case of probably most of us here, even if gas went up $1 per gallon today, it wouldnt put a huge drain on our pocket (im assuming that if your sitting on the internet, you have extra money to spare or you would be working another job).

my car costs $70 to fill up (17 gallon @ $4.25 for 91) and i probably piss away a tank a week. if gas went to $5.25, that would mean its an additional $884 a year in fuel, which i will just pass that right along as a tax right off (hopefully) and go about my day

angeleyes 06-27-2008 09:15 AM

My car sucks on gas but I'm lucky, it's a 2004 and has less than 20,000 miles on it so I don't really drive enough to feel the crunch, but I did the math.... If I had to do any substantial amount of driving, I would be screwed.

Yes because non of us are on the internet to make money.

It amazes me how many people think that higher gas prices only affect you at the pump.

Dollarmansteve 06-27-2008 10:02 AM

I use about 2000 Litres of gas per year, max. so, a 50% increase in price equals about $1000 per year or $83 per month. This represents a trivial amount of money to me and most people.

If $83 or $100 a month breaks your back, you are walking a fine line, probably time to re-assess you financial situation.

I really haven't changed anything on my routine. But they are starting to talk about inflation and raising prices down here in Brazil, so I'm a little scared.

Even though I think that a recession down here would be great for me once the dollar would go up a little and 70% of my income is in dollars.

xmas13 06-27-2008 11:15 AM

Food prices and taxes rising, Citigroup near bankruptcy, wars in Afghanistan, Iraq soon in Iran, real estate / mortgage / stock markets on the verge of collapse.

It's called the perfect storm.

Even Barclays Capital expressed concern for its wealthy clients.

BlackCrayon 06-27-2008 11:16 AM

Like a few others mentioned, no matter if you feel you are personally effected or not the people who are paying for memberships, etc online are in general feeling it.

BradM 06-27-2008 11:17 AM

My wife commutes to school. It affects me in the range of $700 per month in gas.

So yes, I am starting to care.

xmas13 06-27-2008 11:19 AM

Apple Inc. is worth 50% more than what used to be the world's largest bank.

Vick! 06-27-2008 12:05 PM

Not really, but higher gas prices means higher prices for everything, it does matter a bit.

DatingGold 06-27-2008 12:10 PM

I'd pay just about any price to drive 25 miles rather than walk it.

Chris 06-27-2008 12:12 PM

honestly
ill pay whatever it goes up to
but we are about to take a road trip
as a family we like to have a budget and we had to make more room for gas

this is a trip we take every year

last year it took us 150$ in gas...This year it is gonna take us almost 300$ in gas
