Who would you say is/was the most notorious serial killer?
 

I bought a book on serial killers the other week and reading it there are some nasty people in this world. And I was thinking, most all aim to be the most notorious, so who do you think was the most notorious?

3 main names come to me.

Ted Bundy
Jack the ripper

and the one who gave me the creeps the most, in my opinion the most notorious has to be Andrei Chikatilo.

i liked how they ended andrei..the russian serial killler...walked out of court..with guilty verdict...into a small cell...before he could even turn around buddy was pulling the trigger

I think Jack the Ripper is probably the most widely known, but Dahmer and Gacy rank up there as well.

Albert Fish got to be on top of that list... the Moors from Manchester just came into my head as well.

Jack the ripper is the winner but what was the name of the guy in the bell tower. He is probably referenced more.

Searching the house, authorities found:

Ahh I did not know that happend, just said he was excuted in book after the trial.
Anyway turns out he had a speical infamous cage built for him for his own protection from the crowd. The dead victims relatives wanted him released and to form their own trial on him

I would argue and say he was more of a spree killer than a serial killer.

Dr. Harold "Freddy" Shipman murdered 400 people so he is the most prolific serial killer. Pedro "Monster of the Andes" Lopez was convicted of 57 murders and is rumored to be responsible for 300 deaths.

Now that's what I call style.

Lets not forget the Green River Killer, Ed Kemper, Lenard Lake and Charles Ng, and Richard Rameriz. Henrly Lucas (which the movie 'henry portrait of a serial killer was based), There was this guy in Peru Pedro Lopez, he killed so many girls and stashed their bodies in caves in the hills. One year there was crazy flooding and all of these bodies washed into town.

Wesley Alan Dodd creeped me out. He pulled his capers about 10 miles from where I grew up.

I would have to say John Wayne Gacy or Dahlmer.

Of all time it has to be Ripper.

That said..if you want to go for the one whose 'story' grosses me out the most it is Richard Chase.

I have met a woman that was the surviver of a guy named Dayton Leroy Rogers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dayton_Leroy_Rogers

he picked up and killed prostitutes then dumped their bodies up in the hills. Some hunters found the bodies and they eventually caught him. He was dumping these bodies not far outside the town I grew up in and there is a woman that lives in the town that is a survivor of his attack. She got in the car with him (I'm not sure if she used to be a prostitute or what) then he attacked her and stabbed her but she fought him off and got away. Pretty wild knowing that this guy was dumping bodies in the same place I use to go up and swim and hike.

Reading this book I had is pretty hardcore at some points I just want to throw it away, some of the things that these killers did.

I could not imagine taking a course on it, must have been pretty intense.

Big congrats to the police who target these people, thats for sure.

I would have to say Zodiac also ranks up there because he used to ridicule the poilce, no0one mentioned son-of-sam either... just adding to the list.. but all that Ed Gein stiff!! WHOA!!

Manson never actually killed anyone... his followers did acting on what they believed were orders to kill... and in the belief that they were setting off a race riot, not exactly serial killer material imo.

The + side though is most of the people killed were creepy gay dudes so in a way how was he really so bad?

Ted Bundy was always the most infamous to me, might just be because I'm from Everett Washington though.

Albert Fish has got to be one of the most sadistic of the serial killers that I've read about, he used to have his own kids flog him in his ass with paddles with nails and spikes in it..


He used to shove alcohol soaked cotton balls into his anus and light them on fire.. He also shoved over a dozen needles into his dick and pelvic region.. A true sick fuck..

When they fried his ass at sing sing he said that the electric chair would be the greatest thrill of his life..

Jack The Ripper for sure. One of the suspects who a large number of "experts" think did it was from the US and buried a few miles from my house.

"Dr" Francis Tumblety (c. 1830/3?1903). Seemingly uneducated or self-educated Irish-American raised from an infant in Rochester, New York, where he sold pornography to canal boats passing along the Erie Canal. He earned a small fortune posing as a quack doctor throughout the United States and Canada and occasionally travelling across Europe as well.[1] He was commonly perceived as a misogynist and was connected to the deaths of some of his patients and charged by the authorities in Canada but skipped the country. It is uncertain if these deaths were deliberate or not. He was also charged with supplying herbs to procure an illegal abortion. He gained a reputation for his eccentric, ostentatious clothes frequently of a military nature. He was arrested and incarcerated in the Old Capitol Prison, Washington, for complicity in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, but released upon the plea of mistaken identity.

Tumblety was in England in 1888 and had visited the country on other occasions; during one such earlier trip he became closely acquainted with Victorian writer Thomas Henry Hall Caine, with whom it was suggested he had an affair and from whom he tried to borrow money as his finances had become precarious. He claimed to have treated many famous English patients, including Charles Dickens, for a variety of illnesses. He was arrested on November 7, 1888, on charges of "gross indecency", apparently for engaging in homosexuality. Awaiting trial, he instead fled the country for France on November 24, 1888. It has been suggested that he was released on police bail before the final canonical murder of Mary Jane Kelly (on November 9). Notorious in the United States for his scams, including selling forged Union military discharge papers during the American Civil War and impersonating an army officer, news of his arrest led some to suggest he was the Ripper.

Tumblety was mentioned as having been a Ripper suspect by former Detective Chief Inspector John George Littlechild of the Metropolitan Police in a letter to journalist and author, George R. Sims dated September 23, 1913.[1] Claims that Scotland Yard sent an officer to the United States in 1888 to try to bring Tumblety back in connection with the crimes have been disputed by recent research, although there are anecdotal American newspaper reports to suggest that this was the case. One objection to Tumblety's viability as a suspect lies with his alleged homosexuality, since in general male homosexual serial killers kill other men.

He died in a St Louis hospital in 1903, possibly of syphilis, and is buried in Rochester, New York.
