pros and cons of putting RSS on your blog

just wondering what other thoughts on having RSS disabled on your blog

having an rss feed makes it easier for splogs to scrape your feed

I know mainstream blogs that are popular like having as many feed subscribers as possible as part of a popularity indicator to show off to advertisers

would like to hear opinions on the subject

You can insert a special watermark into all your feeds. I mean a link to the original blog or something like that.

interesting, although I am sure that the scrapers could easily filter that out if they wanted

What's about making this watermark random (say of of 100 variants) and place it in different parts of your posts inside the feed? :winkwink:

I think I'll implement such a feature in the next release of CyberSEO Suite. Actually I have wrote some similar script for one of GFY's so I have a good plan on how to make the new feed-protecting script even better.

As about the scrapers. If such a person have at least a basic PHP knowledge, he won't need any feeds to stole your content. It's very easy to write a script which will be grabbing the content from a site directly. I mean to extract it right from the HTML code.

good point, but I've seen it with feeds recently so it's not like its uncommon for sploggers to use your feeds

back to my original question, what do you think of the value of putting an rss feed on the average original adult blog?

i dont see the use of it on a porn blog... i doubt anyone would use it anyways.

Just give them the title and the first few lines . . . not the entire post.
