I Need A Place To Live By The End Of July
I really need some help and suggestions from you guys. I need to move out soon and I really don't want to stay in Florida that bad and I don't want to move back to Indiana.
I need to move soon and I'm trying to find a place I'll like. I wanted to move to Thailand but it seems like it might be a bad idea with the way their Internet laws work. Brazil also looks good to me but I don't know if I will find a place that's in my budget. There are places in Central and Western Europe that look good. I've even thought of Canada I have several criteria for a place I move to. It must be a modern city with good hospitals and at least some modern infrastructure like good public transportation and have open minded people. Nice looking girls is also a bonus. I'd like to live in a nice sized city but I'd be willing to live an hour or two away from a major city. I need a furnished studio apartment that is no more than $400 a month but I'm actually looking for something under $350. This price doesn't include utilities, Internet or cable. I might be willing to share a room if it's temporary. I could probably afford a place that was $500 a month but I'd rather save my money. I must be able to get a plane ticket for a reasonable price. I really don't like the idea of paying over $1000 for a ticket. A warm climate is a bonus but i can live in a colder place. I've been looking through craigslist but I still haven't found anything I like and I need to talk to people that are living in different places so I can get an idea of what these places will be like. |
Arizona Nevada or New Mexico in the USA.

you described Las Vegas

Moving to a foreign country without checking it out first is probably not the greatest idea... I am sure some of our resident world travelers/movers would agree.

I did not know such a place existed.

You may need to live with a few roommates to get in a place for 400 a month. It is about 1,300 for a one bedroom here, 1000 for a studio. I personally would rather pay more for a better place and cut other expenses. Any place where you can get around without a car is going to cost more for an apartment than somewhere in the middle of no where. Europe is expensive and the currency is worth more so it's even more. Maybe you could get by in eastern Europe on what you are talking about but it may lack other things you desire.
You could probably live in like Bakersfield, or Riverside CA. Only an hour from LA. Maybe some places in AZ too. I actually looked outside Chicago, it is pretty cheap there in a roommate scenerio. Of course all of the cities in the middle of no where like Louisville and St. Louis have dirt cheap outskirts but you might be bored there. Actually, most places seem pretty reasonable compared to NY, LA and SF. I have checked Canada and I didn't find anything too reaonable. Why do you need furnished? Buying a few pieces of furniture can be very inexpensive if you buy it used. I wouldn't stress about furniture. |

Arizona has lots of nice places if you can handle the heat.

I would get my budget to $1k a month unless you plan to room somewhere near a metro area.
If you dont mind being out the stix - you can get some nice places for sub $500, but you'll be in the hills or in the hood. Furniture - Why worry about it? ... If you are reading craigslist already there is a ton of free furniture that people would be overjoyed to get rid of. I know I have given away some great pieces as me and the wife upgraded to newer stuff over time. If you are that hung up on furniture - you can furnish your place from Ikea on the cheap :) |

At the money you want to pay, you're cutting it very close with the tickets, but maybe you can crash-land in the badlands of Mexico; I'm sure that amount of money shall give you a kingly adobe hut.
|
budget is extremely low... for that $ you'll be living in the ghetto no matter where you go
|
not to sure on a place but best of luck to you. :thumbsup
|
I dont think you'll find much with the amount of $ you are looking to spend. Maybe find a place you wanna live and try to find a frat house on craigslist with 6 other ppl or something, haha.
|
ok, a lot of you guys are saying that my budget is low but I expect to pay $100 for cable and Internet plus another $100 to $150 for utilities. What are you guys paying for that?
|
Come to the UK ..we do get sunshine over here in the summer... sometimes..

"Brazil also looks good to me but I don't know if I will find a place that's in my budget."
I thought one could live like a king in Brazil on 150 USD a month. |
In one of the cheapest cities in Poland, I'm paying $550/mo for a 1 bedroom. My girlfriend's brother and his gf pay around $230 for their apartment, also 1 bedroom. Mine is obviously much nicer and in a nicer area, but you can fulfill all your criteria here. We even have 20mbit internet.

Zimbabwe is probably within your budget
|
Geez dude. Here is a suggestion. Make more money. Unless you like living in cockroach infested ghetto shitholes.
|

There are a few cheapish European countries you could look into, as well as Taiwan, etc, etc.

Sundsvalle Sweden is nice and pretty damn cheap. A friend had a penthouse apt with sweet roof access for less than i paid for my old apt in upstate ny.

How old are you? I would not suggest moving overseas without a ton more money saved up. Things could get weird quick if you do not know anything about where you are moving
Good Luck |
You can get a garage apartment in an OK but not great part of town in DFW for around that... furnished, maybe, maybe not. Probably not.
Alternately, you can look into house sharing. You can easily live in a NICE 4 bedroom, newer build, good area with sidewalks and parks with three other guys for less than 300/month. Then you split the net and electric and water 4 ways as well. In this case, you would probably only need a bed, the rest of the furniture would already be there. |

If I were you I'd stay put until you start making a bit more money, and then move somewhere you're satisfied with. Would suck to spend all that money moving across the country only to wind up unhappy.

Brazil is expensive to live in
Quote:
President Lula has secretly raised the minimum wage by at least 5% per year, above inflation. Mr Bush has helped to f.ck up the exchange rate. Brazilian minimum wage was 20-40 dollars in the 80ies to early 90ies. Now it is 250 dollars! So you are talking below miserable minimum wage. The only cheap thing are the $ 5 a pop brothels. And they are a little on the dirty side, so you might want to invest at least 50 dollars per pop. But, to be serious, 500 dollars is a low low middle class income in Rio, and you will not live like a king at all. To llive cheaply, check out Asia. I am tempted to leave Brazil. But Rio has its good sides. Climate, soccer, sex, carnival .......... |
