most of the time they are, especially in public domain. although the code they are usually made with pops up virus or trojan on scanners.

Astalavista.com has search engines pointing to keygen hosting sites that are clean with no malicious code. It's weird and I'm not sure why or how they pay to exist.

but it's important the place where you download them from...

95% of all "keygens" are trojans.... creating a .exe file just to show you a string of text? :)

I miss hearing familiar chiptunes and no-credit-to-Purple-Motion-in-the-applet-compressed-with-UPX software mentioned. Linux doesn't usually need those.
