Step Inside Old Fucks

Those who were living it up in the 70's....

Please explain to me why that fucking, 'wishing well' song seems to be in a lot of 70's, early 80's period pieces...

Wonderland
54
and others that slip my mind.

Nicky 06-21-2008 09:09 PM

I was born '83 does that count? :P

Only if you can tell me why that song is in those period pieces.

I wanna know if this was like the top song of the 70's, or why the same key songs tend to be in these types of movies.

GatorB 06-21-2008 10:10 PM

Only "wishing well' song I know is form Terence Trent D'Arby and that's from the mid 80's you need to be more specific.

baddog 06-21-2008 10:12 PM

I have no idea what song you are referring to.

No idea what song you are referring to, but my favorite artist Bob Mould has a song called Wishing Well that came out on his Workbook solo album from '89.

The artist has a good publisher that's getting it placed on the movie soundtracks or the song is on "the list" of available songs from the movie studios subsidiary music publishers. Somebody is scratching someones back.

If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts would tell
Just like an old time movie
īBout a ghost from a wishinī well
In a castle dark or a fortress strong
With chains upon my feet
You know that ghost is me

I donīt know where we went wrong
But the feelingīs gone
And I just canīt get it back

If you could read my mind, yeah
If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts would tell
Just like a paperback novel
The kind that drugstores sell
When you reached the part
Where the heartaches come
The hero would be you
But heroes often fail

Never thought I feel this way
And Iīve got to say
That I just donīt get it
I donīt know where we went wrong
But the feelingīs gone
And I just canīt get it back

If you could read my mind
If you could
If you could
If you could read my mind

If you could
If you could
If you could read my mind

If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts would tell
Just like an old time movie
īBout a ghost from a wishinī well

If you could read my mind

Was there and don't recall "wishing well"..

Typically a pussy wasn't shaved back then and the play 'Hair' was popular. Some thought it was cool for a girl to have hairy legs and arm pits. A European thing I guess.

I love how people not old enough still feel the need to post in this thread lol...

Barefootsies... what song are you talking about??

The lyrics you just posted is Gordon Lightfoot "If you could read my mind". It's a great song.

And yes, it's on my Itunes between Good Riddance and Green Day.

stickyfingerz 06-22-2008 07:29 AM

Yes it was popular.

Aren't you about the same age as me BareFootsies? I was born in 73.

Yeah, those lyrics are the song I was thinking of. Even though I have seen 54, and Wonderland probably a hundred times. I never really caught the 'read my mind', just the chorus about the fucking "wishing well".

Friend of mine used to open for our band just doing acoustic stuff on guitar, one of his fav songs to play was this, but never was a big fav of mine personally.

To be honest I can't remember if I knew it from back then or from being out on the road playing for two years. When you play a shitload of country and southern rock stuff that song is pretty well known hehe. I've got Pure Prairie League playing atm. lol

CDSmith 06-22-2008 08:28 AM

It's a Gordon Lightfoot tune and it's a great Canadian classic. It's one of those tunes that sets a mood.

I don't know why it gets put into so many movies. Obviously a lot of filmmakers like it, maybe there's a forum where you could ask them?

Barefootsies 06-22-2008 08:31 AM

This would be my guess Smitty.

Actually, before you posted the lyrics I had no idea what song you were talking about, and the only one that came to mind was Black Sabbath (with Dio). Their 1980 album Heaven & Hell has a song called "wishing well" on it.

http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=ubd... ic&ct=result

But I've never seen a movie with that song in it. Not sure why, it's a great song, great album.
