Jaguar xk or xkr VS BMW 5 series convertible vs ???
What car would you pick and why?
keep in mind the '07 xkr adds almost 10k in cost for an extra badge on the side and just under 100 more horse or would you prefer some othe convertible altogether? what? why? time for another car |
Totally different cars..
Do you want a sports car or a 4 door sports sedan? I dont like jaguar so i'd never buy one of their sports cars.. so i'd go for the bmw 5 series.. but i'd never go for just the 5 series especially if I was lookin at a XKR so i'd have to go with a M5 ... |
aren't those cars in different markets? also nearly 100Hp is HUGE.
When you're spending that kind of money go with a straight 2 seater and you have way better options. Back seats in convertibles... why bother? |
Remember that the 5 series BMW scored lowest in its class for side impact safety. Not usually a selling point for me on a car.

you are correct I have not even looked at any 5 series but assumed BMW had one in a convertible. I pretty much made up my mind on the jag long ago just threw this out for feedback need to new car to show off at the atlanta show.... since i may just drive up |
You really can't compare an M5 with a Jag as the BMW is a pretty single minded car and I don't think they ever plan to make a convertable.

Go for the XKR, as I said in the last thread, bring it to Atlanta and I will take pics of it for all to see:thumbsup

:thumbsup although I honestly hate driving in Atlanta ( even a cheap car) I may still drive it up |
definitely the bmw

I just sold my Jag a few weeks ago and really miss it. I'd go with the XKR. That's a hot ride.

Drive up in a '68 Camaro and you'll get 10x the props... shit about any 60's car you can get as a convertible. If done properly they make great daily drivers too.
and get this.... it won't lose 40% of its value in 12mnths..... |
BMW 6 series convertible is amazing. I love that car. I have the BMW Z4 two seater convertible and its a great car to drive. My first rear wheel drive car and I love it.

If your primary motivating factor is to show off the Jag will barely turn the eye of most people. Get a nice loud and rumbling CLASSIC car and you'll get ALL eyes turning. Take a look around $40k-50k at cobra replicas and you'll shit yourself... get one with an IRS and you'll be golden. Also get a soft top for those situations you get rained on. Shit you can get REALLY nice 302 fuel injected 5spd + IRS around $35k if you're patient. If you spend higher amounts you can get 6spd's that with mild gears and mild driving can actually get 30MPG or more. My 5spd 302FI that I had averaged 24MPG and I was NAILING it most of the time. ran 13.23 in the quarter but I had the wrong gearing. my 1st gear could only get me to ~20MPH before I had to shift paired with traction issues and having the 8.8" ford rear and it simply wasn't a drag car... was just a nice cruiser. |
One of my last cars was an M3 convertible. It was a great car to drive. Alot of fun.
