COSTA RICA: Need Vacation Suggestions :)
I'm taking a break from Rabbits to hit Costa Rica from July 13 till the 23rd. I want to hit a surf school for a few days then find some interesting places to explore and/or party. I'm also looking to do some scuba while there, too, if possible. I've been checking the travel sites but nothing seems to stand out.
If anyone has any suggestions of places to hit, I'd appreciate them ;) |
Hey Doug,
Glad you're going to be checking out Costa Rica! I'm sure you'll love it. Not to burst your bubble or anything but July is smack in the middle of the rainy (or as tourism operators love to say, "green") season. However the silver lining is that it's rainier in the beginning (May/June) and the end (September/October), and you may hit a very sunny and hot "Indian summer" in July that occurs most years. All that being said the weather for the last 2 years has been completely unpredictable and strange (climate change?) so who knows! Places I can suggest start with Playa Samara... cool beach town, check out Shake Joe's for big couches on the beach that you'll never want to leave, and Las Olas for a cool beach bar. |

I stayed at the Occidental Grand in Papagayo in March and had a great time.
I would suggest the zip line tours at Buena Vista Hot Springs and a shopping excursion to Coco Beach. |

I hear you about the rainy season but the buddy I'm traveling with is about to start his big lawyering job in August and figures this will be the last time he gets to escape without any responsibilities weighting on him. I'd rather hit it in February when it's icy cold up here, but I have no issues with rain as long as I can find one of those couches you speak of to chill on with a drink in hand ;) Thanks ;) |

However, other than surf school, I think we want to move from place to place... see the land a little... I'll save pampering myself for the next trip. hehe |

I am spending the month in Costa Rica. I have been here two weeks of the month. while it is the rainy season, it rains almost every day, but where I am it is in the afternoon and cools everything down. It is a lot like florida actually.
I am in Nosara. Great surfing, but I am not a scuba diver so I am not sure there are good places to dive here. Cool Zip line tour here. Great food. Nice people. Decent internet connection . :thumbsup |
Leaving for Costa Rica myself on the 4th of Juli till the 24th traveling around the country.
Can't wait!!!! |

How is the weather there right now? Is it a heavy rain once a day in the afternoon or all day long? Last year in Malasia I was in the rainy season and that was only once every few days a big rain in the afternoon. |
This is what the rainy season looks like this morning. :winkwink:

On the Pacific coast where we are it rains in the afternoon. Usually it is sunny most of the day and around 3:30 or 4 it rains. We love it because it cools off the air and keeps the dust down. I think if you go inland it can rain all day, but here in Nosara, it has been great for 2 weeks. :thumbsup |

As for the Internet, that I can pass on. I can use some time unplugged! (okay, I'll be desperately seeing a connection after 24 hours, but I can dream, right?) |

I think if you like the concept of the zip tour, you should get one if it is convenient. It is definitely worth it. :thumbsup I like to be connected to the world, but if you can be happy without it then you will spend more time enjoying this beautiful country. :thumbsup |

Seriously though, I like to travel a country and see as much as possible. Can't stand to just lay on the beach doing nothing for weeks :) |
Have a great time on vacation and make sure to share the pics!
See you in Vegas prior to your holiday? |

Where are you guys located? |
hey man, if your looking surfing and partying hit up Jaco and Hermosa beach. You can rooms in Jaco for the night pretty cheap and there are like 5 surf schools right on the beach. The surf is awesome, they have major surf comps at hermosa which is like 5 minutes from Jaco. then cruise down the western coast to Manuel Antonio beach.
The best thing for zip lines is to take a trip to Arenal Volcano, the volcano goes off like every hour and thats where some pretty sweet hot springs are. Los Lagos is a small hotel where you can swim in thier hot springs pool, drink from the pool side bar and watch the volcano go off. I went during rainy season man, don't worry about it all. There is so much adventure and shit to do the rain won't even bother you. Grab a case of Imperial and just fucking giver! |
hit up Lance of AI for Costa Rica vacation tips. he's staying there for quite long now..
|
Do NOT miss the Blue Marlin Bar at the Hotel Del Rey in San Jose.....

Here is a little video I did from the 2007 show. Mostly scenery around the Jaco area. We so want to move down there, just a bad time to do it right now. Eventually I want to live at least part of the year down there. Simply love it. http://www.stickyboxbucks.com/costa480p.wmv |
