Is the gas mileage better for motorcycles than it is with cars?

Is it?

I was checking out a Harley last night. I really want one. I've been thinking about bikes for a while now. Rice rockets look like death on wheels so I'm not gonna do that.

For me it would have to be a Harley or at least a touring bike.

But part of the appeal of of bikes is the idea that they get more MPG than automobiles.

Is that true? Anyone got some experience with this?

Get a shitty ~200cc Kawasaki if you want mileage; a Hawg if you want everyone to assume you're a dentist having a midlife crisis.

Pornwolf 06-18-2008 01:55 PM

Heh, you'd be really reaching to imagine looking at me and thinking, 'dentist with a mid life crisis.'

Haha

Have you seen the sorts of people who ride them these days? Dentists, archieologists and internet dorks.

Haha, You can be sure I still don't fall into those categories on looks.

Think Vin Diesel on a bike.

Dentist? No.

Archeologist? Maybe, if by archeologist you mean a guy who searches for dusty cougar pussy structures.

Anyone got MPG stats on their bike?

crockett 06-18-2008 02:10 PM

Why is it when ever you see someone on a BMW bike, they always are wearing the whole BMW riding gear package, jumpsuit and the whole nine yards?

For fucking ever!!!! have not had one in a long time, but I could ride for more than a week on mine for 7$

It was a rice burner. Ninja 750 with all sorts of work to it.

Not standard mileage, and it was still awesome.

tranza 06-18-2008 02:22 PM

It's MUCH better than cars......

Pornwolf 06-18-2008 02:36 PM

Fuckin hell, that chart says the 'Honda Unicorn' gets over 100mpg.

WTF is a Honda Unicorn?

baddog 06-18-2008 02:46 PM

I get about 30 MPG with mine, but I ride like the devil. I remember the first time I rode thru FL when the speed limit was 55 MPH. The main highway going to Tampa had highway patrol offices every 100 yards (it seemed), so I actually went the speed limit there. I got 50+ MPG.

So, like anything, your results may vary. I would be willing to bet most get better mileage than I do.

my ST1300 gets about 41 - 45 mpg, but I tend to be heavy on the throttle

my VFR800 gets about 52mpg. It weighs about 250lbs less than my other bike.
