I'm moving to...Vegas Baby!

Ok so in about a month I will have a new house there and am going to start furnishing my new place. My question is, what's the best way to get mass furniture and appliances at a good price? I need to furnish the whole thing pretty much. Also curious who's all from there and how you like it?

adult-help 06-17-2008 12:47 AM

Congratulations!!

Good luck with the move :-)

Congrats and good luck!

a local place like Walker Furniture / Warehouse can stock your whole home and deliver it. I'd use them....

perhaps, if you have the $$. call a staging company, they will lay everything out (designwise) like they do when selling a house.

Excellent question, I've been wondering the exact same thing about furnishings.

I'm moving there in November, if not earlier. Going in September (at the latest) to find a place. Will probably just rent an apartment for a year, look around and then buy something eventually.

Lot's of friends have moved there from L.A. and N.Y. and love it. If you can handle the heat, I don't think you can go wrong.

Try Direct Buy, there are 2 locations in Vegas. Otherwise, check out RC Willey.

Post when you get to Vegas so that you may network with us.

One of our staff members furnished his whole house here in Vegas with great deals he got off of craigslist. Either it was due to the poor economy or the abundance of foreclsures here, there are tons of extra great deals on CL now.

I?ve already checked out Direct Buy and I'm speaking from personal experience.

I?ve been a member for 3 years and they?ve done both my homes in LA and Vegas. If you have a major project such as doing an entire house, their prices on furniture cannot be beat. For example, the Great Indoors quoted me $48,000.00 to redo my kitchen in Vegas and Direct Buy did it for $19,000.00. That was just for the cabinets by the same manufacturer. If someone is looking to simply do a room or get a sofa, I wouldn?t recommend them. Instead, get a friend who is a member to make small purchases for you. With any major renovation or new construction, Direct Buy cannot be beat.

congrats, and best wishes on the move. :angel

We are in Vegas also, I have a deal with a local furniture guy. He also owns a ton of phone sex lines and we help him with some things on his site from time to time. When I moved into my current house I got pretty much everything at cost from him.

It's always about who you know.

Holly 06-17-2008 09:51 AM

I would at least split the furniture and appliances into two groups. I bet you'll get a better deal, that way.

For appliances, look at Lowe's, Sears, and Home Depot type stores. They deliver, have service and warranties, and you know they're not going to disappear in a year or two.

For furniture, look for those "complete package" stores. They usually have everything set up in their showroom and you can buy the whole room, accessories and all, if you want. They also offer no interest for up to 5 years, and sometimes more, depending on how much you spend. I don't know about Vegas, but in the South we have:

http://www.roomstogo.com/
http://www.roomstore.com/
http://www.ashleyhomestores.com/

If you don't have any of those, I bet there's something similar.

Congrats on the move. I heard Vegas is a really nice place to live actually.

I see those commercials all the time and I always wonder if they're legit.

So what's the deal- do you pay a memebership fee and have access to all services?

Hey hook a dude up! lol

Tom_PM 06-17-2008 09:59 AM

What part of Vegas? I looked at houses there online and I found so many that were on 1/8th acres and such cramped spots they could barely be called "single family detached" lol.

Congrats

My parents were telling me about DirectBuy...I was considering that as an option. Anyone know what the join fee is?

Uh oh...what did you find out that wasn't so good?

SNRProductions 06-17-2008 11:03 AM

Thanks for all the ideas guys...craigslist isn't a bad idea either with all the foreclosures. Not sure if I want to go the used route but it might be worth a shot to look into it. I'm moving to a spot called...Spring Valley I think it is? It's about 15 min from the strip off Decator.

Kudles 06-17-2008 02:04 PM

Wow congrats!! Have fun.

Isn't that place sort of a scam? Don't you pay some outrageous membership fee and then only get a limited selection of items to choose from? Basically like paying a membership to shop at Sears? Correct me if I am wrong.

I thought it was like $2500 to join.

Edit: Seen it has already been answered above.
