just received this from ibill

i probably shouldn't be posting this, with only a single email to go on. i am (of course) a little bit skeptical:

Quote:

Good news. We will be announcing a solution next week that will enable
iBill to process your transactions without incorporating in US. I'll get
with you Monday to discuss.
'amazingly sweet' - would be quite an understatement :glugglug

anyone else catch wind of this?

[Labret] 10-19-2002 02:15 AM

iBill SUCKS! :Graucho

Shoplifter 10-19-2002 02:17 AM

Quiet who sent this, was it Sylvia? I haven't heard a peep.

Can you disclose more of your conversation and what you said to get this reply?

My heart certainly sank when the EU was accepted but not us :Oh crap

Brown Bear 10-19-2002 02:17 AM

Is that all they give you? no details? just that?

quiet 10-19-2002 02:20 AM

that's all i've got. it's not from a rep. i can't disclose any more than that (not that there is anything more to disclose at this point).

Shoplifter 10-19-2002 02:26 AM

Assuming this specifically addresses Canadians it is heartening news. I was actually just filling out the Verotel application....

Hey Labret do you use Verotel? How are the rebills?

Thanks very much for the post Quiet.

quiet 10-19-2002 02:29 AM

no problem. i wouldn't base any decisions on it though. i'm still working through an alternate plan. i only got that message an hour ago.

Calvinguy 10-19-2002 02:35 AM

I got an email too, see:

Mr.Fiction 10-19-2002 02:36 AM

quiet, man, don't let us down. I thought you were in on the Visa boycott. It's not about the money anymore, we're doing it for the cause. Don't sell out, bro.

Ask yourself this question: What would Jesus do?

The answer is obvious, he'd boycott Visa. In fact, in his lifetime, he did just that!

quiet 10-19-2002 02:39 AM

Calvinguy - the difference is that i'm Canadian.

fantastic.. while all us non-us webmasters are frantically trying to setup us companies, spending all this money could be for nothing...

trust them to leave it to the last minute

on another note.. take a read of the joint epoch/ibill/ccbill email.. it mentions 'more mastercard infomation will come through soon'
im guessing thats the $1000 hit:(

Yah I have paid for the family vacations of several guys in Nevada at this point. I was due to make another payment today but I will wait it out until Tuesday.

So what might Ibill be up to? An AC Pay type scheme? Or will they just do Canadians in another region until someone tells them not to like Globill and the others?

quiet 10-19-2002 08:54 PM

bump. any other Canadian companies hear about this?

playa 10-19-2002 08:58 PM

this is really amazing,,
why can't they get their shit together

SleazyDream 10-19-2002 09:05 PM

after discussing it with my account and lawyer I'm just sitting back and waiting to see what happens. I was lucky enough to get a us tax number when in flordia for internext (for other reasons) I would suggest you get a US tax # IMMEDIATLY quiet - just in case. So worst case scenario I just open a US corp. I really don't think I'll have to though, I just can't see them locking us canadians out. There are too many other international businesses at stake as well that fall under similar guildlines in canada. (drug companies in particular) - my lawyer represents a few in wpg and none of us are really all that worried.

i already have an alternate plan ready to go.

this would be much, much sweeter however - for many reasons. i should hear from my ibill source on Monday, and then i'll go one route or the other based on that...

Shoplifter 10-19-2002 09:20 PM

Even though I haven't heard anything supporting Quiet's email
I am thinking we will very soon see some sort of solution that allows non USA sites to process and evade the fees as well.

If they don't find a way they will be kissing away a huge portion of their existing business and almost all of their newbie business to billers that for whatever reason are not involved with these requirements. Who on earth would sign up with Ibill as long as Globill or Verotel etc are in operation. They must solve this problem.

The USA incorporation is -absolutely- last ditch stuff, and I think that most webmasters who would be forced to do it would only do it for so long as to secure their rebills and figure out a way to
slowly extricate their businesses from the USA.

i agree.

SleazyDream 10-19-2002 09:29 PM

not just for billing reasons either - fucking americans will sue you for looking at them the wrong way. And then there's those political moral majority bozo's like ashhahahahaha..........Just safer in general to have as much as possible outside of the USA

interesting - GFY automatically changes the name of our fav aut gen to hahahahaha..... probally to keep the n s a away

quiet 10-21-2002 07:01 PM

just checked my email, and received this from ibill:

Quote:

xxxx,

The solution is for Canadian based AND European based webmasters.....We'll
still need you fill out the form (which will probably need some
modification)........... xxxxx will be glad to work with you on that piece.
tried to call him but he's off work.

now come on, the cat must be out of the bag by now. or am i still the only one hearing that Canadians have an ibill solution - beyond US incorporation, taxation, etc, etc?
