do wireless repeaters work?

My wireless is weak in parts of my house. Does anyone have experience with repeaters? Also how about those plugin the wall and it extends your connection thru the electrical outlets?

I have installed a wireless repeater for a client with great success. It plugs into the wall and is completely unobtrusive, and basically just rebroadcasts your original signal. Works just like having a second wireless router in a different part of the house but without any wires.

Jesus I think I just had a seizure from that wildcamcash banner while typing this.

Yes my pops has used them in our larger houses..

Older larger houses are horrible for wifi...

I dunno any brands or anything just that they worked really well.. They sell them for cell phones also..

have you tried replacing the antenna on your router with a better one?
I find that to be much easier/better/cheaper.

I've used this one and it worked really well...

you can use Access Points and spread the signal in the whole neighborhood :)

Tony .... save yourself a few bucks ...

If you go to Best Buy or Circuit City, you can pick up a Linksys WRH54G wireless router for $39.99 ...

The beauty of this particular router is that it is so cheap, but also it is a LINUX router, and is now supported by dd-WRT -- open source firmware that unlocks many of the factory-locked capabilities of your router.

One of these features is the ability to crank up the outgoing TX signal (Linksys sets them at the factory with a value of 26-28, but without any special cooling, you can safely crank that puppy up to 65-70 ...)

The next (and more important) feature is the ability to toggle this router between acting as a normal access point, or a range extending repeater!!

I have purchased 8 of these routers already, have used 2 myself to make sure every corner of my house has a 100% signal, and have sold them all set up to a few friends also!

The firmware install is no harder than flashing the router with an OEM Linksys firmware .BIN file, and was sucessful on the first try on all 8 routers I have flashed so far!

Linksys wants $129.99 for their retail range extender device, so you do the math! :thumbsup
