11:33 a.m. -- Jobs is showing why 3G is faster/better than EDGE. It takes 21 seconds for complex web site to fully load. Same site on EDGE takes... 59 seconds. 2.8 times faster. compared to Wi-Fi, it's very close. Same site is 17 seconds on Wi-Fi. "It's amazingly zippy". It takes 33 seconds for N95 and 34 seconds on Treo 750 to load same site. Now onto email. It takes five seconds for an email attachment compared to 18 seconds for EDGE. But how about battery life? Standby time is up to 300 hours. For 3G talktime, up to five hours. For browsing 5-6 hours. Video is 7 hours and audio is 24 hours. GPS is also going into the iPhone 3G. (Big applause) You can now track yourself using GPS. 11:39 a.m. -- Enterprise support is there. So are third party apps. For countries, iPhone is in 6 countries. Stretch goal was 25 countries. He shows a map of where iPhone is going with "It's a small world" playing. Virtually all of North and South America and Europe covered. The map includes 70 countries overall for this year. Last one is Japan. "Next time you need an iPhone in Malta it will be there." The list includes 29 countries in Europe and 8 in Asia and Australia. 11:44 a.m. -- The iPhone 3G 8GB will sell for $199 and the 16GB will sell for $299. The 16GB will also feature a white back. The iPhone 3G rolls out in 22 countries for July 11 for $199. Now he wants to show us a new add for the iPhone 3G. Shows some guys carrying a metal security box. Unveils the only phone that beats the iPhone. Steve likes the video so much, he shows video again. |

Wow, nobody could have predicted that...
It's a fucking phone, who gives a shit. And a year from now you'll shell out another couple hundred bucks when Apple orders you to. |

I have owned just about every smart phone out there and the Iphone is the FIRST one that you can actually enjoy using the net on. Not to mention how nice the email works... I have PDF files sent to me all the time... and they open up and are as easy to read as on my main computers. I'm ready for the new version. I really have been missing the 3g. I hate Edge so much that I actually have a Sprint Merlin EX720 in a Wipip Cradlepoint and a serve myself a wifi link from my Pathfinder, just so I don't have to use the edge. (Course it's also nice that I can also access via my other laptops and my friends laptops etc... Wifi is very spotty in and around the Cincinnati area so it's been a big help to me. |

I'm psyched. Can't wait to get one on July 11th. :)

any software updates for the existing iphone on the way?
|

Well first of all here in america the Iphone will only work if you have at&t. some of us prefer to use other carriers. But being this is an Apple product it doesn't surprise me that they make the Iphone MORE difficult for the consumer to get than easier.
Secondly wow a 3g phone so now you can hit your 5 GB monthly cap even faster! yeah! |
Some nice features on this update....
|
Unlimited data here in the states for iPhones
|
any info on the monthly plans yet?
i have a feeling they might want to raise them to make up for the less revenue of the unit itself. |
3G network is def cool, but is only available in certain areas (that I know about). I had a wireless card for my laptop and worked perfectly when I was in LA. In central PA (harrisburg) its slow. As much as id like to get a new iPhone, if there is no 3G network here, waste of money.
Id like to see a 32GB iPhone with copy/paste functions and bluetooth connect ability. i keep loosing that damn cord |
It sure sucks they only come in black and white. I thought they were coming out with more colors.
My wife wants a pink one. :disgust |

New 3G iphone rules.
|
NOW the iphone is a worthy phone, without 3G and GPS it was just a bad joke. I don't care how pretty the browser is when its slower than dialup, when you have 3G with unlimited data you can simply plug it into your laptop and ENJOY using the internet at near DSL speeds. the old EDGE is worse than dialup.
see an old thread by me... Garmin Mobile XT on my wifes mogul is BADASS. Once these 3G's are unlocked does anybody know if I can bring it over to sprint? |

I would have probably not even been hooked if it wasn't for AaronM and Deej having laughs on us because my wife and myself were not familiar with the iPhone or what it was capable of...... :1orglaugh:1orglaugh We had seen ads, but never paid it much attention...... |
Let's not forget it has built in GPS too! :D
|
|
I wasn't too impressed, thought it was gonna have video conferencing, oh well, maybe that will be next year.
|
