Absolute cheapest bandwidth?

I'm looking for a dedicated server to host nothing but pictures and movies. I'm looking for the cheapest possible solution. That doesn't totally suck donkey dicks. I don't care if it is pure cogent bandwidth. I'm looking for about 5 mbps right now. Probably more in a month or so.

XMaster 06-08-2008 12:18 PM

I have thought about making a legit tube site. Using very short sponsor movies. Though, I've never actually done anything. I was thinking more along the lines of static pages like galleries. Maybe posting a link to a (sponsor provided) movie from time to time in my blogs.

fris 06-08-2008 02:27 PM

what do you wanna pay?

You are going to have to want a lot more than that if you want to see competitive pricing. That is pretty much a standard amount that comes with any dedicated server.

If that's all you are doing, why don't you go with a shared solution of some sort. You may get some good options, but the company will still need to charge you a base price for hardware, electricity, infrastructure, management, and bandwidth. At five Mbps, you really don't have much room to wiggle for prices.

Who has a virtual account for 5 mbps? A cheap one. This is for for stuff that isn't all that important. Actually, not very important at all. All I care about is uptime.

Lycanthrope 06-08-2008 04:33 PM

It doesn't sound like you will need a whole hell of a lot of processing power, (which is good if you aren't looking to spend much on this particular project), so I can do one of our entry level servers (minimum specs: Celeron 2.0 / 512 Meg RAM / 80 Gig Drive) with 5 mbps Bandwidth, managed with a control panel (Direct Admin) for $99.00 / month (free setup).

Please contact me if interested.

Bandwidth is easy to add to any virtual account. I can give it to you at $.15/gig on a virtual plan

Snake Doctor 06-09-2008 11:38 AM

The cheapest bandwidth is free.
I can give you a dedicated 100mbps connection for free.

The server will cost you $3K per month. :)

Brad Mitchell 06-09-2008 11:42 AM

I'm not sub-$200 but have listed some excellent fully managed entry level specials here: http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=831334

Best of luck!

Brad
