Do you have a cause that you devote time & or money to?

Whether it's animals, babies, politics, disease ... do you donate your time or your money to any cause(s) in particular?

I think I am going to start giving a little to the animals each month through aspca.

starpimps 06-05-2008 11:28 AM

i donate to aspca and other charities involving animals.

polish_aristocrat 06-05-2008 11:29 AM

Just spent $1500 today to a foundation to fulfill a child's wish :)

But don't donate regularly to any charities.
Was thinking about devoting my time to some charity, but I'm not really sure what kind of organisation would be the best...

G-Rotica 06-05-2008 11:33 AM

Yea, the "get me laid" foundation.

tranza 06-05-2008 11:34 AM

Nope, not really.

halfpint 06-05-2008 11:35 AM

what a coincidence ... Ramos also seems to think he helps the homeless get back on their feet, he gives those guys $2-$5 almost every time we get stuck at a long light on the freeway off ramp.

I do alot with the University, its not a charity or cause per se, but I do work with the enterprise coop program quite closely in the capacity of mentorship, advisor, etc. They were the organization that got me off the ground and I do the same for them now. I also donated cash to organization too and sit on the board of advisors that helps student ventures start up.

I donate money to a number of charities. The majority are animal related, but I also have some homeless/outreach charities I help. Oh Sarah, ASPCA is a great place to donate to as you mention possibly doing above.

Off the top of my head here are the places I make regular donations to:

Best Friends Animal Sanctuary (my fav)
ASPCA
Local Humane Society
Send A Cow.org - very neat concept for helping families to sustain themselves
Seeing Eye Dogs Foundation
Grey2K- foundation to end greyhoud racing
Dian Fosseys Gorilla Consevation (I also adopted a Gorilla named Segasira) <-- bite that marina!
Our local outreach and homeless food bank

datatank 06-05-2008 01:11 PM

I donate a few hours a day as a counselor for the A.R.S.W.A

"aged russian single womens association"

I'm happy you chimed in here!
I keep meaning to start giving & then I get into the rut of choosing a reputable place where I feel my $ will actually go somewhere.
Glad you gave the :thumbsup to the ASPCA!

Every week I go to the 44th Street Women's Help Center and do my part help the single mothers get back on their feet.

bronco67 06-05-2008 01:36 PM

My cause is trying to see how many French Canadian escorts will fit with me on a shower curtain lining soaked with oil. I've made it up to 4, so far.

Time? No.
Money? Yes. Animal charities, buddhists and entrepreneurs in impoverished countries.
www.kiva.org demonstrates the power of the internet.

We donate a percentage of our net profit to Doctors without borders. It's a fuckload better than Tithing.. :D

BradM 06-05-2008 02:05 PM

My wife and I like St. Jude.... we're big fans of kids and we like to help any way we can. Her paychecks have an auto deduct feature where a portion goes straight to the charity every 2 weeks.

fallenmuffin 06-05-2008 02:07 PM

Graveyards. Respect the dead at all times.

I clean up graveyards from time to time when there is an opening. A few years back a bunch of kids smashed up 30 tombstones and they got together a group of volunteers to fix the place up. Not sure why but I'm always ready to volunteer when it comes to graveyards.

GetSCORECash 06-05-2008 03:39 PM

Every month. I look at it as an investment in the future, of the community around me.

It's better to give, and look from afar instead of letting the people you are helping know who you are. This way you can see if you are actually changeing thier lives...

That's probably the most unusual answer in here, and very cool of you :thumbsup

I donate time at the UCLA Hospital Heart Center and talk to patients waiting for transplants etc about how to keep a positive attitude and give hope..it feels good to give back!

Monique Niccole 06-05-2008 05:33 PM

I donate money to Planned Parenthood and other lobbying organizations dedicated to protecting women's reproductive rights.

I wish I could do more than just write a few checks every year though. I'd like to do something more active.

GrouchyAdmin 06-05-2008 05:35 PM

Breast exams.

Spunky 06-05-2008 05:36 PM
