Anybody ever fly "AirTran Airlines" ????????

its between them and AA but they got more flights to ATLANTA.....

Any reviews?

Chris 06-05-2008 08:57 AM

fuck you
and fuck atlanta

i was soo hyped when i saw the location
then i saw the date

the wife and i are having a wedding "ceremony" for all of our friends n family that we never did in the past

atom 06-05-2008 09:00 AM

i've flown them around 10 times and been delayed 2-3. the seats are a little bigger than northwest, southwest, they don't offer 1st class.

the only thing I found disturbing flying them the first time is that after the value-jet everglades crash they immediatly changed their name. I used to take them out of atlanta to lauderdale so I would think about it when over the everglades.

atom 06-05-2008 09:02 AM

oh and i used to like laying over in atlanta because of popeyes chicken, we have 1 in MN and its nowhere close to me. probably a good thing...

Got Porn? 06-05-2008 09:02 AM

I've flown AirTran a few times. They usually have cheap tickets, that's the only reason to fly with them.

oh snap "they were value jet" ??? :helpme:helpme:helpme

czarina 06-05-2008 09:08 AM

my nieces flew it once from Orlando to Miami, it was OK, no problems at all, and really cheap.

GetSCORECash 06-05-2008 09:09 AM

I did a while back. All their flights had a connection to Atlanta, atleast when I flew with them. They are way cheaper then AA, specially if it's a last minute flight. They have older planes, so keep that in mind.

Ayla_SquareTurtle 06-05-2008 09:11 AM

Yeah I have... they're cheap! Never had any problems, in fact, there was a delay due to a terminal problem at DFW with them one time, and I didn't even have to get rude on them for them to offer me the next flight out on a different carrier (no charge) because I was on my way to a wedding and couldn't be late.

Juicy D. Links 06-05-2008 09:12 AM

delta flies in there also i see

Good Point. value-jet was epic event here in Miami, I can still remember it like it was yesterday.

But because of value-jet, the airlines have stricter guidelines. The accident could of occured on AA aswell. I would fear more getting delayed, or the plane not getting of the ground more then another value-jet disaster.

I must be confused, I thought they went out of business. ATA, right?

I know SWA used them for their carrier between Chicago and LaGuardia, then stopped.

stevo 06-05-2008 09:24 AM

I only had one problem with them... Their pilots went on strike once i landed at a connecting stop. I arrived in Vegas several hours late and missed my Crazy Horse show!

ATA = American Trans Air
AT = AirTran

But AirTran is a member of the Air Transport Association of America (ATA), the industry trade organization representing the leading U.S. airlines.

JFK 06-05-2008 09:31 AM

did they shorten their name from Air Tranny ??

LauraLee 06-05-2008 09:34 AM

The reason their are so many flights offered for AirTran is because Atlanta is their main hub.

I fly the Ft Laud to Atlanta route pretty regularly and it's almost always AirTran. They are decent in my book.

HollywoodChris 06-05-2008 09:34 AM

Ive been flying them since they became airtran airlines after that crash in the Florida Swamps when they were Value jet. The planes are the newesst in the business and all circulate fresh air so you are not breathing in everyones sick babies air...lol

I've been on that flight from LGA to ATL probably 30 times and from LA to ATL 30 times. No problems with them at all. just upgrade if you can for free drinks :)

Peaches 06-05-2008 09:36 AM

Since Delta doesn't like competition, you can usually find a cheaper rate on Delta if someone like AirTran has the same flight. I've never flown AirTran just because I was born a Delta baby but I've not heard bad things about them. My friend who's an FA for AA has flown them to Atlanta when she can't get a non-rev on AA out of ORD.

Daddy Big Nuts 06-05-2008 09:39 AM

If you are flying to Atlanta....they are the only way to go. Delta has more flights there...but its guaranfuckinteed that you will be late. As far as AA goes, after my last experience with them ...4 flights....4 flights of over 1 hour 30 minutes EACH of delays.....NEVER again.

:2 cents:

jscott 06-05-2008 09:40 AM

I used to fly Airtran all the time, they were good for the price, they dont have any perks though, no 1st class, etc etc, but, it gets you from point A to point B with a cheap price :)

LAJ 06-05-2008 09:59 AM

I've flown on them once.

well, you're still with us , so its all good:winkwink:

Peaches 06-05-2008 10:04 AM

They might not have "1st class" but they have "business class" (which is exactly what Delta calls their 1st class on international and to Hawaii - well, it's called "Business Elite" but same thing, IMO:

http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Air...ng_717-200.php

http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Air...ng_737-700.php

Personally I will go out of my way NOT to fly on a 737 - just a personal preference.

its only a 2.5 hr flight from NY to atlanta no need for biz class , only long ass flights to west coast i take biz class as long as they arent assraping me that hard loll

buyandsell 06-05-2008 11:19 AM

airline for trannies you shoild be fine

tranza 06-05-2008 11:24 AM

Never heard about them before..

Peaches 06-05-2008 11:26 AM

Seatguru.com rocks. I've been using it for years and especially with Delta who has 10 flights to certain places in a day, it's nice to be able to pick which plane you'd be most comfortable on and which seat to pick. I was using it the other day off my Blackberry discussing with the desk girl at the airport which seat I wanted to upgrade to. ;)

Furious_Male 06-05-2008 11:36 AM

They have business class which is easy to upgrade to the day of your flight at a very low rate. I have never had a problem with them I take all my NY to FL flights through them (quick bounce through Atl).

I agree about SeatGuru, especially since I also mostly fly Delta. The only problem is that with all the fuel costs and budgeting problems, even if you DO book a specific flight/seat, it's not likely you'll get that specific plane configuration. This has happened to me the last 5 times I've flown on Delta from LA to ATL. Every time I get the BS excuse about 'equipment' issues and thus them having to use a 'smaller plane', hence having to choose different seating within BizElite on the spot.

It would be nice to fly on that 777 again... what an awesome experience in BiZElite!

Agreed.. in the past couple years I've used them dozens of times, primarily because they were cheaper than the other airlines.. probably only used 3 other airlines once or twice each in that same time frame,

CarlosTheGaucho 06-05-2008 02:21 PM

Yeah that's a sister company from Air Tranny Airlines, same fares not that much fun though..

Airtran is your basic cattle carrier like Southwest.

Well, that's not entirely true, I'd definitely take them over southwest any day for the reserved seats alone. I dont do "general admission". They also have a small business class, no frills still but you do get a bigger seat.

Only caveats are same as any of the other non-major carriers. If there's bad weather or something, and they start cancelling flights, all bets are off. Delta, United, AA, etc will get you there sooner or later. AirTran in the past has been prone to say "tough noogies" and give you a credit or refund after cancelling flights and you're on your own to figure out the re-book.

Flying OUT of Atlanta, they dont offer enough of a discount to get me to part with my miles I earn on Delta. Though Airtran does have a sweet frequent flyer program of their own, unless it's changed, 3 round trip flights earns you a free ticket.
