Being married to a Jewish princess, I have had the pleasure of travelling to Israel on more than one occasion. The first thing that struck me when I first visited there was the rampant black humour of which I am a loyal fan ? I had never heard so many Jewish jokes in my entire life! The trait of not taking oneself too seriously came as a breath of fresh air, not least since we were living in Germany at the time, whose population aruably do!

Whilst having the world?s hundreth largest population of only some 6.4m, Israel is a tech-savy country in more ways than one. Not only was the processor in your computer probably developed there, but this is also the country that lays claim to having the highest percentage of home computers per capita anywhere in the world.

A recent study conducted by the Bank of Israel shows that in Israel the use of payment cards has surged in several sectors due to the recent economic boom there. Online shopping, thanks to a of a 72 penetration rate in household internet access, has played an important role, as well as the increasing number of merchants that accept payment cards.

Technological advancement has brought its own contribution, allowing for the launch of new products on the market, including prepaid cards and smart cards. The issuer of Leumi Visa credit cards recently reported that the number of valid cards at the end of last year grew by 14 percent relative to the previous one.

However, as with most developed markets, many Israelis are often relluctant to use their plastic friends online for fear of fraud, identity theft, or plain scared of being found out by an over-inquisitive wife! And believe me, I know what I am talking about!

The comments about Israel may be stupid, but yours are just propaganda as well. I've been to Iran, and Lebanon (and stayed in Hezbollah territory - Beqaa Valley near Baalbek) and Syria on my way back from Europe last year. I survived all three, and actually the people in all the places were as kind to me as could possibly be. I don't doubt if you were Jewish, or American (I know Syria makes it hard for American's to get into the country now days, not impossible though) it might be a little different, but nothing like you said.

I actually remember in the middle of the night walking around Beirut and bumping into two American tourists (about 20 years old) boyfriend and girlfriend and they were having no problems either, and myself and my friend went and hit some nightclubs (kind of lame compared to European ones but the Lebanese girls love white guys so was fun) with them. Sure their Government policies and religion aren't something I want to see in Europe any time soon, but the people themselves (particularly the Shia) are quite kind and down to earth and not very religious at all. I don't doubt Israel would be a decent place to visit, full of decent people, but the Government policy that they pursue is pretty appalling.

Israel is a must visit for all since such a culture , tradition, people and huge variety of ways to spend time good and i mean really good is not seen anywhere today.
