A public apology to DrinkingHard and GTS
 

Awhile back, I threw DH and GTS under the bus so to speak. I started a thread saying I was boycotting them and that everyone else should too, because of his decision to broker ads for tube sites.

I jumped the gun, and I should have given DH time to do what he said he was going to do, which was to work with those sites to use only sponsor provided (and personal user uploaded amateur) content.

It looks like the sites he represents are headed down that path, and I should have given him the benefit of the doubt.

I've been really frustrated lately by the loss of income that I can only assume is due to the massive proliferation of free content available, mostly on tube sites, and I guess I took my frustration out on DH and GTS.
I shouldn't have done that and I apologize.

Boycotting GTS over tube sites is like boycotting your local grocer for selling Clorox because clorox's parent company was found dumping toxic waste somewhere. At some point you'll end up boycotting every company in the world over something you don't like because they're all interconnected in some way.

A friend pointed out to me recently that it would be hypocritical of me to move my hosting to Ch00pa after what I said about DH, because apparently Ch00pa hosts some of the biggest tube sites. (I didn't know this at the time)
After some reflection, I decided he was right but that it would be silly for me to boycott Ch00pa, and therefore it was silly of me to lump GTS into a group of people I won't do business with.

They still may not want to do business with me after what I said about them, and I can understand that, but they deserved the apology anyways.

If an illegal tube site deposits it's sponsor checks at Chase, do I then have to boycott the bank and cut up my credit cards?
If they receive payment from GTS via epassporte do I have to boycott epass because they're "facilitating theft"?

If they host at abc host do I have to boycott them as well? And then do I have to boycott their upstream providers and peers as well? Do I have to boycott Dell because they made the server and Cisco because they made the router that serves up the stolen content?

I don't like illegal tube sites, (I really don't even like "legal" ones if they're giving away 30+ minute movies for free) but taking it out on DH wasn't the right thing for me to do.

I'm looking into embedded for my own site, but am worried about my members rebelling.

members like to download and save their favorite videos. Plus who wants to watch it in tube style when you can get that shit for free? Fuck all you fags that say adapt. I wont and I havent lost a dime to any tube site. Its all about traffic.

I know of 3 programs right now that switched from all download to all flash embedded. from what 2 of them say it didn't effect anything whatsoever...but you HAVE to do it right....you can't just have a single flash video, you NEED to give them options, all the way up to HD/high quality...the 3rd program owner hasn't responded as to how his switch went

We are doing RTMPE .mp4s encoded with h264 running off CaveCreek CDN fms. Instant playback, scrub anywhere in the video and watch it, dont have to download the full file, so this is a big savings in the long run. Members rarely watch a full video, they watch a bit of the beginning then scrub along towards the middle, then onto the cumshot etc. That means you only pay for what they view instead of the full file. Only way to grab my vids that I am doing this with is screen capturing.

Faster delivery, lower bandwidth cost, and more secure. Yet people stick to .wmv downloads. :uhoh

the only way I can see that happening is in rural areas where time warner is the ONLY option for those people, so they are forced to do it

Chances are that Time Warner will not pursue their new metered bandwidth business model. Similar models have already been tried, tested, and failed. Customers hate it, end of story. All of this is simply further evidence that Time Warner is a poorly run company and has no idea what they're doing.

You don't think that if Time Warner is able to pull it off that the other carriers won't petition their respective PUC for a rate change? ie: metering b/w

why not allow them either x amount of full video dl's per month or dl of videos at a cost for each? If you have the original content for it, it could be a very winning model.
