IM 24, smoked for 10 years, I quit last December. WHatever method you choose to quit, it wont work unless you are committed to quitting.

I chose patches, but I bought a 1 week box (7 patches), and I ran out on Xmas eve.... Stupid me went to the stores and all were closed, I couldnt get more patches.... I had inlaws coming over for Xmas, I thgouth, 'what the hell', get 2 packs, smoke for 2 days, and thats what I did. The second pack was my last pack, I was seriously committed to quit. I went out and got a two week patch box, but I never finished them. I ended up forgetting to switch patches towards the last week, and from that I was weined (sp?) off.

The first 2 or 3 weeks is the worst. Get a lot of chewing gum, thats what got me by. After that, you wonder why you smoked those cancer sticks in the first place.

Wenchy 10-17-2002 02:26 PM

Yep, I confess... I'M A SMOKER! Whew, that felt good! :1orglaugh

You're right, it is a disgusting habit. But since weighing 300 lb. is MORE disgusting and since I have enough stress with the damned things... Um excuse me, it's time for a smoke :winkwink:

Ludedude 10-17-2002 02:56 PM

I'm 3 weeks 7 hours 25 minutes smoke-free :-) 429 cigs not smoked, $107.25 saved, 1day 11:45 life saved.

It's getting easier now...but what a tough habit to break

I was smoking a pack a day, I have been smoking for 10 years. I quit a year ago. I feel so relieved.

I quit cold turkey and It was a success. This forum commnunity is awesome. http://whyquit.com/

Excellent articles and support and it's free.

What also made me quit is reading the following article "He Wanted You to Know" :

bawdy 10-17-2002 03:25 PM

now all i gotta do is get some exercise and lose the spare tire that has been stuck around my waist for the last year...

Did you cut off the daily supply of love untill they quit:glugglug

Sleepy 10-17-2002 04:37 PM

I quit smoking a little while back. For me the big difference was having the patch to get me over the "freakout" stage. Instead of smoking when I work, I eat peanuts. I get the ones with the shell which helps with the fidgeting. I also went back to heavy training in Tang Soo Do. With all of the above combined I can honestly say I dont crave a cig very often at all.

If you are someone who has quit over and over... do yourself a favor and try the patch just one time. It really makes a difference. Nicorette did nothing for me.. the patch made a difference.

420palace 10-17-2002 04:38 PM

its fucking impossible to quit, thinking about trying the patch

"We don't smoke that shit.
We just sell it. We reserve the right to smoke
for young, unemployed, blacks and stupid people."

David Goerlitz, representative for the tobacco industry a long time ago.

421Fill 10-17-2002 09:16 PM

Those pictures made me cry, too. Gawd, I hope I didn't wait too long to quit.

Amputate Your Head 10-17-2002 09:28 PM

been smokin' for 20 years. :smokin

blueballs 10-17-2002 10:03 PM

And on a positive note for you smokers (like me) ~ my father's been a smoker all his life (switched to a pipe at about 50) and he is celebrating his 85th birthday this week-end. My mother who never smoked, passed away in July from Parkinsons ~ so just live and do what makes you happy ~ ya never know.

Morgan 10-17-2002 10:06 PM

Whoa! My vote of "Nope" made the poll 37/37.

Although, I do smoke good herb often.

Firehorse 10-18-2002 12:19 AM

I smoked for 4 years and gave up almost 4 years ago.

I also don't do coffee, tea or junk food.

I have never felt fitter and I love being able to work out until I choose to stop.

Looking better, smelling better and feeling better.

It is everyone's choice.

I also don't dig being addicted to something. So I quit 4 years and it was one of the coolest things I ever did.

Ross 10-18-2002 08:08 AM

I don't smoke, never tried, don't date girls who smoke and never will

I kissed one girl who smoked and it was disgusting....very pretty girl but not worth it

I see no point to it all you are doing is investing in your death....save the money and put it towards something good in life!!

But no offence to anyone who does smoke, "each to their own" is what I say!!

Libertine 10-18-2002 08:16 AM

May help some (not me, alas).

ColKurtz 10-18-2002 08:16 AM

I've never smoked a cigarette in my life but I hate these fuckers...

:BangBang: http://www.thetruth.com/ Bunch of whining commie mother fuckers. My view is if someone wants to smoke its their fucking choice. Anyone that has an ounce of intelligence knows its going to cause health problems, and thats the choice they make. And in a capatilist system, big tobacco should be able to take advantage of what people want, just as pornographers take advantage of horny surfers.

Sexproject 10-18-2002 08:45 AM

I've been a moderate smoker for about 5 years. While I don't care to comment on quitting, I want to praise those who haven't smoked who respect the rights of others. Especially so since those who never have smoked just cannot understand the addiction. It's nice to see open-mindedness.

The only stupid thing about smoking is ever starting. It REALLY pisses me off when people who have never smoked ie thetruth.com bitch at smokers about how stupid they are by smoking. They just don't know. bitching about something you know nothing about is far stupider than smoking IMO.
