I got an email about it this morning and I am not even affected. There's another thread here as well as a thread on their forums.

We're getting a month free hosting... it sucks but a transformator blew up there... the fire service wouldn't let them start their generator.

Dear friends, thx a lot for your inputs - this I all understand & know. But since a few hours the ciommunication is absolutely NONE. Ok: orbit.theplanet.com have some news. But do you think for a big company like this a communication like this is ok. I feel it is VERY lausy! What is your opinion?

While I like to pride ourselves on quality support and always keeping our customers informed of any datacenter issues (even if it doesn't effect the DC their server is in) I can imagine that an outage the proportions of what they are dealing with right now, I can sympathize with them and understand how priorities may make it more important to assess damage and get things up and running than to insure individual communications are made.

From the little I have read on GFY alone, it appears that they are doing their best to get the word out while restoring service as fast as they can.

I would not hold this against them.

Looks like all that damn comment, captcha, web form spam coming from ThePlanet Servers probably overloaded some shit.

Oh no, not at all.. Someone or some people, have some serious automated bot spammers running all over the network... 1000's of IP's doing it.

qxm 06-01-2008 03:46 PM

"the explosion knocked down 3 walls" hollyshit... that's a serious spam attack!

When you find a host whose datacenter explodes due to too much traffic let me know.

Too much traffic? I would say, it's bad karma for all the money they cost us, from the automated bots that scrape our sites, comment spammers, brute force attacks and filling out of all forms clogging our email boxes.

I have entire sections of ThePlanet network blocked from some of my sites.

So the explosion was caused by karma? I guess that is one way to keep them honest.

Could be an act of god, bad luck, or karma..

Karma sounds good in this situation. A transformer blows up and knocks down 3 walls. Yeah, god could have done, and 3 walls being knocked passes the bad luck line. So, karma just seems to fit, at least in my spin of things.

oh yeah, forgot that the threat level was still a thing. Based off of what I'm told by my TV, you are correct, it could not possibly be anything else. :)
