What laptop woudl you get if you were a .NET developer and HAD TO have a laptop
 

What would I need in a laptop for it to not chug if the operating system is Windows server and its running visual studio and sql server at the same time.


WARNING: do not answer the question by suggesting something that I'm not asking for the way fuckers on gfy always do. I'll have docks and dual monitors in both locations. I can't put a desktop in one location and tunnel in. It must be a laptop, thanks.

I run VS 2005 with SQL 2005 on Vista no problems.
Hardware is Dell Vostro 1700 Dual Core 1.6 GHz and 2 GB ram.
I could use more ram, but other than that I'm good.
I also have WAMP running for php dev. I really use the MySql
database instead of the SQL though. I bought SqlYog enterprise,
and didn't feel like using the craptacular manager SQL 2005 gives you.

I'm typing on a Macbook Pro right now...but I wouldn't recommend it for what you want to do. You'd have to use Bootcamp in order to install Windows server.

Get something dirt cheap with a good amount of RAM for Windows Server edition. RAM should be your only concern. Go with a 7200rpm hard drive if you don't mind your battery lasting you 5 minutes.

It will be docked 99% of the time so the battery life will not matter. Thanks for the tips guys.
