the vx-8r comes out in a couple months, looks good, going to have gps and bluetooth.

Hmmm.... about last thing I thought would pop up here.

You do realize that this is VHF/UHF two-way that you need a amateur radio license to operate , don't you? Unless you just use the receiver portion I suppose.

I have VX-170 2m HT. and a FT-7800R. They make solid equipment.

They just got bought out by Motorola so I'm not sure how that will effect their quality or product lines.

Our neighbor is a amateur radio person... it's creepy because I can hear him talking through our stereo speakers sometimes... :)

Haven't done anything on-air for decades, but I remember that when I was 15 my best friend had the first Yaesu that came out (his parents had bucks) and it was sweet - we used it for contesting and it really had balls :thumbsup

yes im aware, have had my liscense for over 10 years, actually just got back from hamfest in rochester today.

about 10+ years ago i had an old yaesu ft-50r, we modded it so we could talk on drive thru freqs, caused some shit back in my teen years

lol...brings back memories...trying to remember what my friend had, it was definitely an ft transceiver, i think it may have been an FTdx560...in its day it was very cool...can't link to the photo but the pics are here
