you should look into Exchange with BES. The only way to go with a blackberry.

Do you have a Blackberry Account with carrier? What carrier? Is the phone locked to a particular carrier? Is is brand new with instructions? Did you call the carriers tech support? Is the phone activated? Which model Blackberry is it?

You provide no info or details....:disgust

Forget the BES/Exchange comments. Not necessary.

just get an iPhone

generally it'll have a personal e-mail account activation icon. Or for example on ATT you go to att.com/blackberrystart and create a user/pass and input your PIN and server settings.

If your email provider has imap push you may be able to get an account to work.
The best so far is gmail and yahoo. I do believe they are the only ones supported by blackberry bis (blackberry internet service). You should have 2 accounts, 1 from your telco, and one for your bis. Create an account on gmail/yahoo, then log into your bis and add the account. On your blackberry desktop an icon should appear with the new email.
So far I've found gmail is the best. The mail will come almost as you press the send button! LOL Yahoo may delay sometimes. Other than that you may be sol.
You could try funambol, but I don't know of any providers that push email.

its in your main menu under icon "email setup" or go to http://www.blackberryforums.com/

I suspected that. If your in Europe , I'm assuming it is a GSM phone. It may or may not be locked. If its locked you can get a code to get it unlocked for a small fee, then you should be able use it for any GSM carrier. Open the phone up and see if the Sim card is labeled which may give you a hint as to which carrier the phone was last used on. The carrier will need to setup an account for you for the Blackberry Internet Service. This will provide a connection to their servers and the Blackberry backend mail servers. Once all that is done, you can use the setup icon mentioned by some to setup the email accounts.

Try t-mobile in Europe. They'll help you if they think you going to open a monthly account.
