Adult Biz recession proof? Your experience:

Are you seeing differences?
What is your personal experience?
Have you had to change your techniques?

Rules for this thread:

1) No fucking politics.
2) No fucking flaming or rants because you saw some guy you hate reply. (No personal vendettas)
3) No flaming or rants about the "free signup" sponsors with cross sells (we all know some like it some hate it - that is for another thread)

Just concise personal experiences and whether you have had to make adjustments.

Like Jim Rome say, have a take.

(And no Jim Rome rants either)

Nothing is recession proof. Incidentials/toys/recreation is usually the first to go. There aren't that many people left who'd rather have their webcams than their food.

It's nowhere near that stage, but it does have a possibility to happen.

Things have gone down a little, but since I am already niched (no-longer-a-webmaster, per se), I can't make crazy demands like $100 PPS. I now work by the job, or by the hour.

Working twice as hard to get the same result. If we can keep it level and not going down I will be happy. The adult Biz was recession proof but that was a time when there was no free porn. It was the shit you had or you had to go buy more.

I would say we are among the last things to get cut out of people's budgets. Most people don't spend that much money on porn. The first thing people cut out is big purchases. They don't buy the big screen TV or the new car. Then they cut vacations. They don't take the family to Disneyworld, they just go camping or somewhere close to home. Eventually if things get really bad they cut out porn and movies and books and things like that, but when times are tough people tend to like their comforts and their distractions.

So we aren't recession proof, but we are as close to it as you can get.

I agree that during our last economic downturn there was much less free porn out there than there is today. We have created our own personal recession that really has very little to do with the actual economy but more by our personal industry wide arms race to see who can give away the most free porn.

More people are involved, too. When I first started 8 years ago, it was easy money. Now the pie is getting cut up into more and more smaller pieces.

But, is some of this mental?

Who is doing as well as always?

Like to hear from them.

I hear that. Back in 1999, 2000 I could work 20 hours a week and make some nice bank. Now it is an actual job. There are a lot more people to compete with these day.

I think individual webmasters will continue to be okay, but the big companies will probably hurt more.
