Tesla plans to offer home roof mounted solar-photovoltaic systems through Solar City, another Elon Musk funded company, that will offset power used by the home charger, allowing 50 miles (80 km) of travel per day without burdening the power grid, thus making the package "energy positive" for a driver whose average daily mileage is less than that.

Jace 05-25-2008 08:33 PM

oh, more on the production of tesla cars

Quote:

Tesla Motors is planning to construct a new plant for mass production of the Tesla WhiteStar in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A total capital investment of $35 million is projected to be spent on the 150,000-square-foot (14,000 m²) plant, which would provide employment for over 400 people. Competition for the plant was intense, as several states including California, Arizona, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Michigan were vying for the investment.

This facility will be the world's first factory dedicated to the mass production of electric vehicles. The company intends to produce at least 10,000 vehicles per year.[11] SunCal, a land development company, has pledged to provide up to 75 acres (300,000 m²) of land next to the initial site at no cost, if Tesla Motors undertakes a major expansion in the future.

Construction was originally planned to begin in April 2007, with completion expected by 2009, including tooling. Tesla Motors has stated that it intends to offer the Tesla WhiteStar for sale in the Fall of 2009.

Really? You went for a drive with him apparently haha. Nah truthfully, the only Tesla that is currently on the road that anyone owns is production model 1, or Elon Musk's, so maybe you went for a drive in a test one. They had gearbox issues are only now entering into production, though I think they've officially sold around 1000. Elon provided most the funding for Tesla, and also his other project Spacex. Cool projects he works on. The Whitestar should be interesting, they said it will be unveiled in the second quarter of 08, so any week now.

Violetta 05-25-2008 10:31 PM

it looks pretty good! Id drive it!

it's hard to produce products in California any more due to environmental issues and workman's comp issues.... Arnold has been trying to get this stuff fixed, not sure how well he's done... LA is even worse.

Comparing that to a Ferrari? Anybody who does that gotta be joking... Sure, the tesla is a great idea aimed at people who like to show off, but it definitely doesn't have anything to do with most of the things a real car enthusiast looks for in a sports car. :2 cents:

malfo 05-26-2008 01:48 AM

haha stop war... make car!

libertygone 05-26-2008 01:51 AM

Its a great car that has been around for some time, But the price is way to high for the general person to get.

chelo - adultcopywriters 05-26-2008 08:14 AM

I can't wait for electric or environment-friendly cars to have better autonomy and start being mass produced.

flashfire 05-26-2008 08:20 AM

$100,000 car yeah thats exactly what we need

Spyce 05-26-2008 08:21 AM

I'd drive it...

MaDalton 05-26-2008 08:42 AM

The Duck 05-26-2008 08:43 AM

Bex 05-26-2008 09:32 AM

Wonder when they will come out with a 4 dr sedan type? I would think that would sell much better than the sports car.

Why not? What is the average cost of a new car on the low end these days? If people are willing to pay $100k for a Range Rover, why not spend $100k for a sports car that does 0-60 in less than four seconds (faster than some Ferraris) AND have one of the first real electric cars on the road?

I'm sure the price will come down once there are more of them on the road....

I wonder if they can. I'm sure that they went with a small sports car first because it's small and light weight.... making a four door would be bigger, meaning it would weigh more....

BlackCrayon 05-26-2008 09:54 AM

Too bad the only people who can afford the car are the same ones who high gas prices don't effect.

scarlettcontent 05-26-2008 10:06 AM

very nice :)

M0nk 05-26-2008 11:23 AM

I would love one of those!!!

woj 05-26-2008 12:47 PM

A little pricey, but that's the future, 10 years from now probably more than half the people will be driving electric cars...

If you mean using alternating current, having a radio, and an induction motor then yes.
