Is laptop XP different than PC XP?
I just bought a Dell laptop and asked if installing XP would void the warranty...
The guy told me that there is a different version of XP used on Laptops, which is more geared to the way notebooks run. Is this true? |
not true.... At least in the real world, maybe if its Dell or something they may give you some bs about that.
|
never heared such a thing ... there are a lot of versions of XP - like "Dark XP", "Gamers XP" ... but I doubt they made an official "Laptop XP" :)
|
total BS.

first time I heard of that

well, they probably install a bunch of useless shit on their various computers based on whether it is a laptop or a desktop. There are different versions of XP though, maybe that is what he is talking about?
I have an HP laptop with windows XP home and my desktop (which died recently) had windows XP Media Center and my desktop before that had Windows XP Pro. All of them were slightly different but not enough to really notice. Now I have Windows Vista and it is fine. I heard so much negativity but to me it is nothing to get upset over. I planned on reinstalling but there was no need because it runs ok. I wouldn't listen to some guy who works at Dell. He is probably just trying to make you spend extra money. I have reformatted the drive on most of my computers and they have all run better after because they are cleared of all the OEM junk they install. goodluck. |
I didn't think it was true, but I figured I'd consult with the panel before proceeding.
I'm sure Vista is fine, but I like XP and don't feel like learning a new OS when I'm fine with what I've got. |
