If you are like me in that you party a little, then over the past few years you, like me, must have known a few people either arrested for DUI, or who have been injured or killed in drunk driving accidents. Even if you have not, you have to be a complete fucking moron to not understand how stupid it is to drink and drive. Anyways, this new Texas Ad campaign is worth a quick look.

I hate drunk drivers. The alcohol limit should be .000 and if you have any alcohol in your blood at all, you should lose your license for life. I think that would end a lot of the problem pretty fucking quick.

better eliminate mouthwash and breath sprays then... they contain alcohol too, and you can and will test positive with them. Even O'Douls non-alcoholic brew contains some alcohol.

Okay, we'll take that into account and say .001%.

what about the abundance of food/meals that is/are cooked with wine or brandy?

The alcohol generally cooks out of stuff like that. However, if you get it into your system, tough.

I don't know if I'd call it "suffering" but I get your point. The way around it is to simply have designated drivers. If you've had any alcohol, you just don't drive. Not too hard. I know it sucks but too many innocent people are killed because some idiot had "just one."

I didn't say to ban it. Just have some real penalties for those that choose to drink and drive.

That is a Texas campaign? They were showing that in Oregon a year or 2 ago.

Very sad but a successful campaign...I would imagine it was successful anyway.

The difference is that if people knew they would lose their license for life, they wouldn't have that "just one." Hopefully anyway, there will always be a few.

I remember when I lived in Australia a long time ago and people did just that. They had pretty strict laws but at the time, it seemed commonplace for people to have a beer cracked open while driving. My understanding was that as long as they didn't actually go over the limit, it was legal. Either that or the people I was staying with were just drunks with their own interpretation of things.

I think the first DWI, assuming no accident or no one hurt, should be treated like a traffic ticket ... hefty fine, the schools or training or whateverthefuck they're making people do these days.

If the 2nd DWI is within 5 years, it ought to be 6 months in jail. Period. No hiring a lawyer and getting it reduced to C&I - treat 'em like a 16-year-old black kid with a 2nd pop for selling crack.

I have no tolerance for drunk driving. Putting another persons life on the line so you can have a couple beers is utter bull shit. If you want to drink, go for it, just make sure all your affairs are in order (transportation).

Let us not forget all the people driving on weed, ice, lsd, coke, x, and god knows what else.... not to mention the incredibly inexperienced teen drivers that kill numerous people each and every year.

Amp, feel free to start another thread and I'll gladly discuss those other troublesome drivers with you. However, this thread is about drunk drivers. :)

The body has a natural .001 % blood alchole level, less then a beer brings a person over .008 % which in most states is considered DUI, thats too low. It should be higher like atleast 3 beers but no more then 8.

a friend of mine smashed his car to hell on sunday night... he was piss drunk and high on acid!! luckily it was on a deserted road and no one was hurt... I just hope he learns something from this... could have easily been dead... flipped several times, landed upside down!

DUI and such is one of the dumbest things you can do.

i got a dwi almost 5 years ago.. dumb fuck thing to do. i was so trashed i didn't know what was going on. as much as it sucked and as much cash as i had to drop for the entire thing, it was worth it. i got lucky(yes, i realize getting arrested isn't lucky) but i didn't get in a wreck or kill anyone. amazingly, after my friends saw all the shit i went through, some of them still get fuzzied and drive. i've had a drink or two and driven, actually gotten pulled over twice for speeding after. the cops see my record and immediately get me out of the car for a sobrity test. my recommendation, don't fucking drink and drive. you could hurt too many people

This one is easy, just abolish ALL driving. There aren't too many fatal stumblings while drunk. We can all get around by a complex process of tubes... like at the drive through window at the bank.
