Hosting Bandwidth...does my math suck?

Maybe someone here will be willing to offer some insight. My wifey and I are considering moving our domain from one virtual host to another...triple the available server space for only a few dollars more.

My question is this.. if the new virtual host is offering a gig of storage, and you get 50 gigs transfer per month before paying overs (overs are $1.99 per extra gig of transfer up to 100 gigs), are the hosts planning on making back the low initial hosting fee on bandwidth usage? I guess it would depend on how much traffic a site has, but would your initial reaction to this deal be, "Look out for the over usage bandwidth bill?"

p.s. - before you say it, I'm on the way to go fuck myself right now. It's just that there's a lot of traffic, and it's raining, so I might be a little behind on the fucking myself schedule.

That's some EXPENSIVE bandwidth. Damn.

Everyone on here goes apeshit when they hear about the high per GB overages people pay on virtual hosted accounts, but I've never come across a virtual account with overage much cheaper than ~$2/GB.

I hear a lot about 20 cents or 30 cents per GB, but isn't that for dedicated servers which are already costing several hundred $$ per month? Even places everyone recommends hands down, such as Like Whoa, have similar overage charges.

I'd love to hear about how a smaller player can actually not get killed by BW charges on a virtual account.

If you would like to understand more about all that... Feel free to give me a call and I'll explain how it works. Whether it's my company or not, I'm happy to help you make a good decision!

it's partially used to simply increase profits, of course (everything is, after all). however, the overage fee is also there to try to get you to buy a larger plan if you think you'll use more bandwidth - that helps them plan their bandwidth purchases and growth.

thats a bit much!
I can also consult you if ya need and send you to some people we trust.

I dont own a hosting comany, but I know most of the good guys and could shoot you their way, or perhaps vouch for some of the companies you have i mind.
