I really recommend FireFox 3 RC1

If you are not yet using it, try it
memory usage has been reduced substantially for me... great improvement.

SmokeyTheBear 05-20-2008 09:05 AM

do us a favour . close all browser windows open firefox , then open gfy main forum then say youtube in another tab, then check memory usage. do the same with i.e. , report us your findings

Ice 05-20-2008 09:06 AM

I hear some add-ons don't work with it

want fries with that?

the fun thing about IE is its built INTO the operating system... when you load windows you're already loading everything IE needs. By running windows you're the one really wasting resources.

RC1 isn't out yet for ubuntu and the standalone download just doesn't work quite right for me for some reason.

dready 05-20-2008 09:36 AM

I'll wait for it to go gold so my add-ons will work.

which ones? adblock working was the main one I was waiting for but that has been working for over a month now. that, better gmail, ffvp, customizegoogle are the only ones I'm using... haven't found any "dealbreaker" addons other than the adblocker

I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. FF3 has changed the way quite a few things work.
I needed to go through my extension and make a bunch of changes before it worked.

It's not up to the FF3 developers to make them work, it's up to the extension developers.

JustinHM 05-20-2008 10:20 AM

I like it
Web Designer plug in does not work with it
neither do several other useful ones
memory usage is *slightly* better, but there are some cool things with it, CSS gradients anyone?

woj 05-20-2008 10:21 AM

FF2 isn't too bad, fuck messing with beta software...

Yeah, it may be some time. My point about waiting for gold is that most extension developers wait until RC1 before they start to update.

Sure, there are some differences between Beta and RC, but it's still buggy software not really intended for public use...

bronco67 05-20-2008 01:34 PM

I like it, but does anyone know how to get rid of those past addresses that pop up in the url bar(the ones with the star next to them).

I have certain people in my household that don't need to know I've searched for "Rachel Milan's ass" 460 times this week.

bronco67 05-20-2008 01:38 PM

Wait, actually its my bookmarks. WTF?

brandonstills 05-20-2008 02:15 PM

I can't run web developer on it. Really pissed me off.

have you ever used a windows release? Microsofts idea of "gold" is roughly the equivalent of what should truly only be an RC.

THEN to top it off I sure hope you're running Vista so we can give you the GOLDEN dumbass award.

The original poster made a comment about memory usage, Smokey wanted some clarification... I don't see a problem with that.

qxm 05-20-2008 05:47 PM

CherryV 05-21-2008 07:31 AM

I was 100% joking with Smokey. I hope you don't see a problem with that either.
