I hate you.

Fuck this shit!
I've been working my ass off on some designs...
now I happen to have some free time due to the fact that I can't contact a few people who owe me money.

Am I naive or what, because I trust people who order designs?
What's wrong with people?! I've never seen so much scammers and asswipes than I've seen on the adult online biz. Fuckheads!

I've been scammed for over $2k worth of designs since august...
after they receive the package, bam, no word.. email bounces and ICQ ain't online. It's fucking great! Just wonderful.

Life is great.

So, what I'm trying to say here...

FUCK YOU!:boid

Rocky 10-16-2002 04:17 AM

Jakke PNG 10-16-2002 04:24 AM

Rocky..
That sounds strangely familiar..
Did I work for you earlier :321GFY

[Labret] 10-16-2002 04:28 AM

Yeah, that sucks. This line of work seems to attract a lot of idiots and scammers. Make them pay a little up front. If not all of it.

TGF - sounds all too familiar .. lots of designer have been saying the same thing lately - I don't think it's just design though
we've had a few run ins with assholes liek that

I did a design for someone last week -they bought some content off me - then decided they needed an AVS site also
they KNEW it was 5am where I live , i am pregnant as in about to POP! and that I was JUST about to go to bed ..but they needed it asap
so against all my better judgement I did it for them
they kept hassling me on ICQ - is it done? is it done? every 1 minute - I uploaded it to my server to show them they took a look said "kool okay I'll paypal you'
then went offline

then the next day they are back on the boards asking ppl "what should I do with this domain ??"

assholes:BangBang:

Ok so I have a kool site with all my own content so it hasn't gone to watse fortunately

but I was sick all day from staying up so late without sleep
- not good when you're pregnant

so from now on I my deisgn work the same as I do my custom content
I want half now- half when finished

I have a suspicion of who they really are and if I am right I don't think a lot of people will be surprised.

Sorry to say but why would you be stoopid enough to give them the design without recieving money. Personally id just give a Screen shot not a full blown tour design.

i agree - never give over design until you have the $$$ put it up in your server with a water mark or "sample" on it - let them look at it there and see if they want it or need it changed etc

Yeah, definately more idiots than in offline bisness's. If I was scammed in some offline venture, I could go to their place and use brute force. Now I don't 'really' even know to whom I did the design. :(

I've been pondering about the upfront payment, but I really don't like it. I'd rather do the design first and then get paid IF the customer likes it.. as if the customer is too much trouble, I can just tell him to go elsewhere as he hasn't paid anything yet. :)

But I really ought to rethink my business plan. I've been scammed almost off as much money as I've made from designs, that's not a good percentage!

Yes.
Most of the scammers.. no actually all of the scammers have paid at first, but when I've done more sites for them after the ones they've paid.. they just vanish.

bibabi 10-16-2002 04:43 AM

I have had that problem only once, and it wasn't with a little guy. It is with a HUGE paysite company. I usually ask for at least half down, but with the bigger companies I invoice because I figure they will pay you. You know what though that is not the case here.

So my advice to you no matter how big or small get the money upfront and don't give them the final design until you are paid in full.

ADL Colin 10-16-2002 04:45 AM

TeenGodFather,

I remember this same thing happening to you a while ago. You're a good guy -- too good.

You said "I'd rather do the design first and then get paid IF the customer likes it."

I think most people would be willing to pay 1/2 up front. If they aren't happy with something you do, then you can always alter it for them according to their need - rather than killing the deal.

If they like your samples, they should like your work.

I guess I'm just stupid, for not learning from experience.

you're not stupid, just too trustworthy and honest

this biz shouldn't be any different then the offline world

when i used to get jobs for outdoor sculptures or for installation art pieces, i would always provide samples prior to execution

total payment of outdoor work is always upfront before anything has been realized, but smaller art pieces would be invoiced after completion and the work would not make it to the client until the invoice was paid in full

Libertine 10-16-2002 05:14 AM

Personally, as a programmer, I've never had people not pay me, even though they always only have to pay me after the work is done.

ADL Colin 10-16-2002 05:48 AM

I agree with Rocky. You just have to put your foot down on it, man. I only meant that you need to make a rule and stick to it. No need make exceptions for anyone.

We all have shit we gotta work on ;-)

hahmike 10-16-2002 05:50 AM

shame you don't have their home addresses.

you could shit in a bag and mail it to them.

Loch 10-16-2002 06:18 AM

When we ran a design company we always demanded payment in full upfront.
Some had a problem with this, but as i see it "i dont give a fuck".
There are ALLOT of scammers out there so i cant see the reason for not demanding payment up front!

For the scammers out there :321GFY

Luckely we do not have to worry about that anymore :thumbsup
