Anyone know of any special deals on laptops right now.
Looking for a cheep laptop for my mother, for around $500

Would prefer xp pro as vista is a pos. however expect it will be vista or nothing these days..

Bought a acer aspire for my girlfriend a year ago for about $550 and she has had no real issues with it and uses it every day....

I went to the local shop, got a sony vaio ex display model, should have been $1,200 got it for $600 with extended warranty. Shops are hurting, go in there tell you've got $500 see what they offer you.

I had (well still have an Acer aspire) and the 120 gig HD decided to cook itself, took it to Acer service and they quoted $500 for a new HD the laptop only cost me $1250 the warranty ran out 1 month before it happened so it's been sitting in the original box for the past 2 months, I'm not about to fork out $500 for a HD. :(

go to a smaller shop. You should be able to get something.

Also check Dell, and see what they have.

try hp pavilion entertainment pc, they've already installed Vista.

thanks everyone...I wish more came with xp instead of vista, I guess I could buy one with 1 gig of ram then upgrade to 2gig so it will work with vista...

i've just bought my girlfriend a dell vostro, not sure in the US but in the UK it was the best spec for lowest price i could find anywhere.

TigerDirect has some Lenovo laptops for $599, a few Acers and HPs in the same price range...probably including the one you mentioned.

Dell has some laptops with xp on them still. I just ordered one for myself. I haven't dealt with Vista and don't intend to anytime soon.

i picked up a sony from best buy for 550. its not for biz, but it works good

there are a lot of good shops around that will give u good laptop for lesser price but sometimes some of them are not good in quality...so you definitely should check it properly...
