How do celeb sites not get sued?

Just curious on how these celeb sites don't get sued, especially if they are showing movie clips. Isn't that infringement... Not talking about exclusive sex tape sites.

Curious

well I know Mr. Skin pays for the use of all their stuff, not sure about the other sites though.

some do, I started mine about 10 days ago, I'm only posting thumbs of pics with credits to the photographer (agency, site, whatever) linking to the bigger picture on their site

I did a lot of reading and this is basically the best way to cever your ass, plus you can add contact form where they can ask for a pic to be removed (shows good will)

I think there are a few places where you can embed celeb movies from (movies that they hold the copyrights for), meaning you should be ok posting them on your site

Isn't it considered news?

I dont think they pay for the use of the material. I believe it's more of them claiming that the use falls under fair use because they are providing a review of the clip/movie/actress.

I could be wrong, but I am usually not :pimp

Ah gotcha. If he's referring to mainly video, I can see where that would be an issue. But I think the studios would, and are, more concerned about piracy on the large scale for full length DVD and movies. Not some 10-30 second clip.

As for the celebs themselves, if they contact you, then you remove it without fuss, and that typically ends it. The people like Perez Hilton, pirate bay, and just about any one you read about in the news are normally people who try and fight removal under the "fair use" clause.

Also, you need to stay away from Playboy, Penthouse, Perfect 10, Suz Randall and a handful of others that are notorious for enforcing copyright. A friend of mine had some grief on those. But, same as I said before, he removed them in 24-48 hours. End of the issue.

:2 cents:

I was wondering the same thing.

I do not know WHO he would be paying. I mean, if you use the handful of agencies like Wire Image, then yeah. I can see it. But last I knew, there was everything from candids, to paps, to screen captures. Just paying all those studios, paps, photographers must be murder.

He (Mr Skin) has been on many tv, and radio show interviews. I mentioned Mr Skin a few weeks back and my friends and gf all had heard about it. Mainly from some show. Obviously he/they are not worried.
